Hyundai Tucson LM open for booking
This was a news that shocked us out of bed this morning. Out of nowhere came a press release from Hyundai-Sime Darby Motor (HSDM) saying that the new Hyundai Tucson LM is now available for test drive and booking at HSDM showrooms nationwide.
Though the Tucson’s arrival was a long time coming, this certainly came out of the blue for us. The official launch is scheduled for next month, but HSDM has decided that it’s time to announce the pricing of the new model.
Pricing starts at RM 126,888 for the standard 2.0-litre variant going up to RM136,888 for the 2.0 High-Spec variant. The top of the range 2.4 is priced at a CR-V-killing RM 152,888.
Both versions of the Tucson are powered by the new Hyundai Theta-II Dual CVVT engine mated to the company’s in-house developed 6-speed maintenance free automatic transmission. The 2.0-litre variant displaces 1,998cc, producing 164hp @ 6,200rpm and 197Nm @ 4,600rpm. Shelling your extra moolah for the 2.4 gets you 2,359cc producing 175hp @ 6,000rpm and 227Nm @ 4,000rpm.
We had a brief preview of the Tucson in early March, and it looks and feels a properly classy act. It is also helped by a comprehensive list of equipment which includes (depending on variant) panoramic sunroof, and an engine start/stop button with smart key.
For customer peace of mind, the Tucson, like all Hyundais, are backed with a 5-year/300,000km warranty. We are eagerly awaiting a test drive.
The next question on our heads is, when is the Sonata coming? Hmm…
