Toyota Vios Gets Facelift for 2010
Shah Alam, 15 April 2010 – Seven years after the launch of the first Toyota Vios in 2003, it still continues to be very popular, with 159,000 units sold to date. Today, it gets a make-over in terms of a minor change, the second one since the first minor change in 2007, with at least one more to come before a complete model change takes place.
The make-over gives the Toyota Vios a refreshing new look – the following are the main changes, with the G model getting the full treatment – a new front grille with chrome treatment, new fog lamps built into the front bumper, and new tail lights. The steering wheel is changed, and the new one is supposed to give an enhanced high quality ‘feel’. The wheels have been changed to a 12-spoke design alloy, and the seats are now a combination of genuine and synthetic leather.
“The new Toyota Vios, which captures a youthful design, with advanced versatility and safety, coupled with enhanced Sporty design for the TRD Sportivo offers a new experience for potential customers,” said Mr. Kuah Kock Heng, President of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, at the media preview.
The main mechanicals are retained – the 1.5 litre 4-cylinder DOHC engine is well proven, producing 109PS at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. Coupled to this is a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission. All models are equipped with ABS, BA and EBD. Dual airbags are standard for all variants except for the J models which feature only one airbag for the driver.
UMW Toyota Motor continues to offer five variants – Vios 1.5J Manual and Automatic, Vios E, Vios G and the Vios TRD Sportivo. On the road prices range from RM71,990 for the Vios J Manual to RM92,000 for the TRD Sportivo.
