New Subaru WRX STI launched in Malaysia
Petaling Jaya, 6 November, 2008 – Subaru loyalists, petrol heads and motoring enthusiasts, at least those who can afford it, can now walk into Motor Image and pick up the newly launched Subaru Impreza WRX STI, the high performance version of the Impreza built by Subaru Tecnica International (STI), a subsidiary of Subaru’s parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries, which specializes in motorsports activities.
“Pure performance and pleasure. Forget boring. The new Subaru Impreza WRX STI will put fun and excitement back into driving with its sexy curves, exquisite control and state-of-the-art technology,” said Glenn Tan, Group Chief Executive of Motor Image Enterprises. “Bent on setting new benchmarks, this new model will affirm the WRX STI as an established icon for high performance cars that combine outstanding performance with uncompromising safety, comfort and quality. This is what every driver deserves,” he added.
First put on public view at the Tokyo Motorshow 2007, the Subaru Impreza WRX STI has finally found its way here.
Subaru has gone a little sideways, straying from its conventional sedan configuration for the Impreza, opting for a hatchback styling with five doors instead. Consequently, the STI version utilizes the same base, resulting in some mixed feelings amongst enthusiasts; some love the new shape, while others prefer the sedan configuration. The good news is of course, you can buy the standard version, and upgrade, both visually or mechanically, on your own, of course.
Whatever the preference, there is no disagreement on the performance of the STI, and this new version comes with several enhancements.
The boxer engine is mounted lower in the engine bay, produces 300PS and 407 Nm of torque in standard trim. Fitted with all-wheel drive, a manual six-speed gearbox and a close-ratio steering rack, the STI is a potent package waiting to be unleashed.
The drive train features Dual AVCS (Dual Active Valve Control System) and SI-Drive for increased control over the handling characteristics. The driver can also use the DCCD (Driver’s Control Centre Differential. The driver can choose from different modes, both auto and manual, for the centre differential to get optimal handling on the road. VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) allows the driver to select three modes, Normal, Traction or Off.
Safety features include Brembo brakes, and ABS with EBD. Retail price is a shade short of RM300k.
