Great Sportsmanship Unfolds at GRA Round 4 Championships At Shah Alam Tomorrow

by -

Shah Alam, 25 October 2008 – Make sure you take the time to mosey over to the Shah Alam Stadium tomorrow morning to catch the titanic fight for top honours in the GrassRacing Autocross Championships Rd 4. A touching story on ultimate sportsmanship also unfolds. Read on…

Leading the championship standings in the overall category is Andy Kow in his Subaru Imprezza. Trailing him by five points is Ivan Khong, who had to be away on business during the previous round held in early September. The bad news is that work commitments meant that Ivan, the reigning champion, had no time to get his own Subaru Imprezza prepared for tomorrow’s event, and he had resigned himself to missing out on this round, and kissing his championship hopes goodbye.

Andy Kow, in a great sporting gesture, has graciously offered his own car to Ivan to drive as the second driver, even though it could be detrimental to his final position in the championship. At the same time, Julian Pang has also offered his Proton Wira 1.8 to Ivan to drive as well. Thus it looks like Ivan not only gets to drive one car, but two, for this weekend.

Elsewhere, Jason Foo has a comfortable lead of 9 points over Mitch Chong and Julian Pang who are joint second in the below 2000 cc category in the open class. There is a mathematical chance of either Julian or Mitch ousting Jason, but if Jason keeps his nose clean, he will bring home the bacon, so to speak. In this class, it looks more like a keen battle for second on the podium.

In the 1300 cc open class, Kenneth Chiew has a healthy 8 point lead over Alfian in a Kancil Turbo and Chan Yau Koon in a Kelisa.

In the Ladies Category, music teacher Charlene Khoo, mild in character but fierce on the track, is looking for more competition in this round. Charlene has consistently won all the ladies categories prizes, and if this goes on, she may have to run with the men.

This event will be the penultimate round of the GRA Autocross Championships for 2008, and the final round is scheduled to be held at the Sepang International Circuit in conjunction with the A1GP next month.

The event will run from 0830 hours in the morning until 1700 hours in the evening. See you there.
