Goodyear Does its Bit for Road Safety
KUALA LUMPUR, SEPTEMBER 2008 – Goodyear Malaysia Berhad along with New Pantai Expressway (NPE) carried out a Kempen Keselamatan Jalanraya (Road Safety Campaign) in conjunction with the Hari Raya festive traffic rush and in support of the Government’s drive to reduce accidents on our roads.
Yang Bhg Tan Sri Ismail bin Haji Omar, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Malaysian Police, kicked off the campaign for this festive season at the New Pantai Expressway Toll Plaza as part of a continuous effort to remind drivers returning to their hometowns to drive safely. The campaign was under the patronage of the Royal Malaysian Police and the Road Safety Department.
“We at Goodyear believe that road accidents are largely avoidable if we ensure that our vehicles are safe and if we observe road safety rules every time we are on the road. We are proud to be working with the Royal Malaysian Police, the Road Safety Department and the New Pantai Expressway, as all parties share the same vision of saving lives on the road,” said Mr Law Kwan Thean, Marketing Director of Goodyear Malaysia.
Goodyear demonstrated various methods to perform a tire health check including the Goodyear 20sen coin test, a simple way to help drivers check the tire tread depth of their vehicles and determine if it is time to change them.
Goodyear gave out road safety materials, Goodyear tire health check “Coin Test Kits” and goodie bags at the toll plaza to drivers heading out of the Klang Valley to their hometowns.
“In extending our efforts to the wider community, Goodyear is offering drivers free 10 point checks on the general condition of their cars including their tires at all Goodyear Autocare and Servitekar outlets. We would like to encourage all drivers to take this opportunity to ensure their vehicles are in tip-top condition and safe for driving,” added Mr Law Kwan Thean.
The free 10-point check included checks on tyre pressure and wear; power steering fluid; air filter; spark plugs; engine oil; transmission fluid; radiator/coolant; brake pads and fluid; battery terminal connection and water; and fan/air-con belts.
During the festive season, Goodyear also be visited parking lots of places such as shopping malls and office buildings to check the tires of the vehicles parked there. A tire check card was left on the windscreen indicating the condition of the tires (good, caution, critical), to help create more awareness of tire safety.
