Ouch! Can we afford to drive now?
This scene of a queue for petrol was what you might have seen here last night – this particular picture was taken in South Africa
From the very long queues at your neighbourhood petrol stations you would have figured out that the Government has increased petrol prices by 78 cents and diesel prices by a whole ringgit.
For me this represents an increase of about RM3,000 a year in terms of petrol costs. Now I know that many people may think that this is not a lot but consider those who earn RM3,000 a month and how this represents an 8.3 per cent increase in their cost of living, and this is before we factor in the price hike that would follow suit. Rice, fish, chicken, beef, pork, vegetables, milk, baby formula diapers, clothing – everything will go up in price.
This is the reality that we will have to deal with from tomorrow onwards.
The government tells us to change our lifestyle, good advice if we are swimming in excess but painful to hear when all we can do is make ends meet every month.
Everyone who enjoys a small savings at the end of every month will find out that saving every month is a luxury.
I would like to know how you guys are coping, please drop us a line to say what you think of the new price and how it will affect you.
One full tank of almost 60L used to cost me about RM100 – RM115 (let’s say 57litre @ 1.92 = RM110), now, it would mean RM154. Pump 4 times a month = RM440 Vs RM616 = Additional RM176 monthly. If I am someone who can only save up RM200 monthly – this would mean I would have to choose between continue savings or continue driving…..
Guys, can get someone to look into hybrid cars…??
Can we ask someone from the G to look into this matter ??
Hi YS…its gonna hurt and it will continue to hurt more like when you say things around us will increase in price in tandem as well….hmmm
Change of lifestyle is definite…savings will be less for sure
Like the saying goes…rich getting richer…poor getting poorer
God bless us all
It’s time to park your car and ride a bike!
malaysia govt should show their care through effort….make it legal to ride cheap electric scooters of china on walkway to office.
Remember two years ago when JPJ harping to charge the public and claim its against the law?
well ,scientist had make effort to make safe and cheap vehicle ….respect that and the rakyat.
The fuel are now almost world standard price so we deserve world standard vehicle regulation..allow us to buy from ebay free from tax…
Allow electric scooters….we rakrat willing to change our lifestyle and goverment policy should reflect that…
it’s not glamour but the last thing we would do…ar empit menace will race anything that has wheels, but they will eventually perish…
please be sincere…thank you
The new price will leave me with nothing at the end of the month. A deficit is even possible. Thus, the increase will affect me deeply. Anyway, there is only one thing to do… which is to move on. May want to borrow from ah long if all else fails. Thank you to the government for forward taxing my fuel when I bought my car 8 years back. There is still some unused fuel subsidy that I have given to the government with the forward taxes that I’ve paid. Also many thanks for allowing me to experience a deficit budget for the first time in my life. Now I feel like a politician ruling a country or state. Thank you very much.
Changing from a 2.0 car to 1.6 car will already enable your monthly expenditure to reduce 20-30%. If you drive a Kelisa like my wife, even after the 80 cents increase, her expenditure is projected to rise only by RM2-Rm4 / month after deducting the rebate given. The question that Malaysians must ask and take action is ‘Do I have a choice of reducing my expenditure? How do I do it? ‘ Please shed the notion of ‘I must drive bigger cars to tell people that I am more successful or public transport is for the poor’ Some other measures – buy less branded goods. Do you know that the fruit juice of in-store brand is 20% or more cheaper than the branded ones? Why must we have BERAS SIAM SPECIAL when we can buy cheaper rice grades for over 40% lesser? We are not like a lot of countries for which the people have no choice…… We Have. Take action now and stop complaining. Or even better, upgrade yourself and get a much higher paying job. If you want to do the same thing everyday, then expect to get the same salary every month. Wake Up to the reality of the world.
I agree with Charles Tan. We must take action besides talking about it (nagging) coz nagging is one way to release stress. I’m lucky enough that I get a carpool from my friend. He passes by my taman everyday so we organize a carpool. I pay him RM200 a month revisable if fuel price increase and 2 piece of tires if this carpool last for 2 years. Calculation as follows:
RM200 divided by RM2.70/L equiv to 74L divide with 20 days is 3.7L a day.
Kelisa consumption is 420KM for 1 full tank of 35L, 8.3L/ 100KM or 1L yield 12KM. 3.7L yield 44KM. Return distance Springhill to PD plant is 36KM (one way = 18KM)
Benefit to me is that I can’t drive slowly for all the 5 days, 3 of those days I’ll ‘sakit jiwa’ and drive like an ass resulting high fuel consumption. But if I follow him I can save money by travel constantly for 20 days at 8.3KM/L on a Kelisa. (Neo give me 8.8 if I drive like a Pondan). My car also travel less mean less service less lubricant less tyre wear. For my friend, he benefit by having additional money from his routine route to work.
So I hope you guys can give this car pool a try but please make a fair arrangement coz friendship worth more that anything on earth.
My observation is the world is moving towards hyperinflation, the fuel price increase in our country is an alarming message to average income earner (including myself) that we have to seriously review and rethink our values in life.
I am used to bought at least 2 litre of freshmilk weekly before 2007.
Ever since the tremendous price revise from 2.70 to 3.00 to 3.70 i decided to stop buying anymore at that point in time.
Today its not surpirse to see the value twin pack at the price of more than RM 10 for 2 litre of Fresh milk Goshhh…
Malaysian standard of living is no longer acceptable for average income earner which i would say the real inflation is more than 100% since 1996.
Its gonna be very paintful to those with family commitment, we have to feed our children nutritionly even though we might only taking white bread daily.
What i foresee another 2 years down the road is those who earn less than
RM 10 thousand monthly, better stay single or your next generation might be suffering from the economy crisis.
A solution is to go venture in business and get out of employment as soon as possible coz the salary increment will never meet the real value of inflation in our life, before its too late.. (i am doing it now : )
Wake up dudes. !!
