Chevrolet Revival Continues with Aveo and Optra Magnum
Kuala Lumpur, 15 April 2008 – The Chevrolet revival in Malaysia continues with the launch of three new models, the Aveo, Optra Magnum and the Optra Magnum Estate. This makes a total of four models in the Chevrolet range of cars that are available to the Malaysian public following the launch of the Captiva five months ago.
“Our aim is to build Chevrolet into a household brand in Malaysia and that means having distinct, high value quality products that cater to a diverse group, be it families, young executives – men or women. These latest additions to our line-up are absolutely timely as Malaysians prize high value, and exciting driving experience in a car,” said Ms Yukontorn Wisadkosin, Chief Executive Officer of HICOM-Chevrolet Sdn Bhd at the media preview held at the Kuala Lumpur Hilton tonight.
The company looks towards selling 4000 to 5000 cars a year in the future, and is now building up its distribution network towards this goal. This includes appointing another 15 dealers in the immediate future to boost the sales network to a total of 25 dealers nationwide. All the centres are to be 3S (Sales Service and Spare Parts) centres.
Also present at the launch was Mr. Steve Carlisle, President of General Motors South East Asia Operations Limited. He said, “The expansion of Chevrolet model line-up in Malaysia underscores General motors’ plan to make Chevrolet a global mainstream brand; particularly Malaysia having been identified as one of the key emerging markets in the world for the passenger car segment.”
The Chevrolet Aveo is the baby of the range, although its size is a lot larger than the old Aveo that we knew previously, and it now comes in a 3-box shape, with a boot at the rear. Powered by a 1.4 litre engine, it is targeted at the young executive, and retails at between RM69,888 and RM79,888, depending on the trim level.
Next level up is the Chevrolet Magnum Sedan, a reworked version of the Optra to give it a refreshed look. The Optra Magnum comes with a choice of a 1.6 litre or 1.8 litre DOHC in-line four, 16-valve fuel injected engine. An aero kit is also available as an option. Prices range from RM84,888 for the 1.6 litre sedan to between RM89,888 and RM98,888 for the 1.8 litre sedan.
The Optra Magnum Estate is available only with a 1.6 litre engine, and retails at between RM91,888 and RM96,888. All prices quoted are on-the-road without insurance.
