Lexus Introduces the New GS 300
The GS 300, first launched in 2005 is the third generation of the GS models, and is the first vehicle to feature Lexus’s L-finesse design philosophy. Now Lexus Malaysia has just introduced a face-lifted version that offers some improvements in styling and more advanced safety features.
The new face-lifted 2008 LEXUS GS 300 retains its 24 valve DOHC 3.0L V6 3GR-FSE engine with Dual VVT-i which produces a respectable 228 bhp/170kW of power at 6,200 rpm and 300Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm, and helps to maintain its sports sedan image.
The interior of the LEXUS GS 300 is enhanced with a redesigned gearlever gate, switchgear and instrumentation upgrades. It also has a more versatile sound system with the addition of an auxiliary audio socket to the 14-speaker, Mark Levinson Premium Sound System which allows the use of an iPod. A new added feature is the optional availability of semi-aniline leather upholstery to give the vehicle more sophistication.
On the outside, the LEXUS GS 300 has a restyled front grille and headlamps, with indicator lamps built into the door mirrors to give it a new and refreshed “face”. It also has better aerodynamic efficiencies from a lowered rear bumper design and under body improvements, which in turn contributes to fuel efficiency. The LEXUS GS 300 now comes in a range of new colours, including Black Opal, Black Opal Mica, Beige Metallic and Frosty Pearl Mica, giving customers more choice.
In terms of handling, the GS 300 is now fitted with Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), which anticipates the onset of a vehicle skid and helps correct the situation with a combination of throttle, braking and steering control to prevent unfortunate situations where a car goes out of control. A new 17-inch, 7 spoke wheel design is also added to give the car more character.
The new Managing Director of LEXUS Malaysia, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, Mr Kuah Kock Heng attended the launch held at the Lexus Centre in Damansara Mutiara. He said, “To date, we have surpassed the target for 2007, with over 195 units of LEXUS cars sold, and the GS 300 contributed 83 units of the overall sales. We are confident that the new upgraded GS 300 will be well received in the market and will further augment our position in the premium segment.”
“The refreshed GS 300, which is emblematic of LEXUS’s “Pursuit of Perfection” will certainly raise the benchmark in terms of refinement in quality, detailing and styling in the luxury market”, Mr. Kuah added.
The 2008 LEXUS GS 300 is available at LEXUS Centre Mutiara Damansara now, and is priced at RM 408,800.00 on the road. (Without insurance)
