Suzuki Malaysia Introduces Suzuki SX4 Cross Over Vehicle
Putrajaya, 12 December 2007 – Suzuki Malaysia Automobile Sdn Bhd introduced the fully imported Suzuki SX4 at a press launch today. Fitted with a 1.6 litre, DOHC engine with variable valve timing (VVT) developing 102 horsepower at 5600 RPM and 140NM of torque at 4,00 RPM, the SX4 is a front wheel drive cross-over unit offering the best features of a sporty compact car and an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle). Transmission is 4-speed automatic.
Under a development concept of ‘X-over revolution’, the DNA of Suzuki’s compact car was complemented by a crossing of its experiences in the design of light SUV’s. As a result, the SX4 rides higher, and is built tougher; in fact, there is already a 4WD version of the SX4 for overseas markets. In a nutshell, the SX4 could be said to be a strongly built mini SUV base with 2WD.
The potential of such a vehicle offers new boundaries for people who generally need a vehicle to go to and from work, but also have a need to go to places that normal vehicles would have problems, such as kampung roads or to lesser developed areas. The roads in the outskirts of the major cities of Sabah and Sarawak would be prime candidates for the SX4.
For the moment, Suzuki Malaysia plans to sell about 50 units of the SX4 a month, and depending on response from the market, will consider going CKD at a later stage. Retail price is RM87,450 (on-the-road without insurance.)
