A1 Team Malaysia Holds End of Season Party
Saturday, 26 May 2007 – A1 Team Malaysia held an End of Season party as a mark of appreciation for its VIPs, sponsors and supporters, and also to celebrate the end of a fantastic season, at the Proton Centre of Excellence tonight. Special mention was given of course to Proton, who are the main sponsors of the A1 team Malaysia. Attended by approximately 200 people, the A1 team Malaysia played videos of the A1 GP races held in the season 06/07 for the attendees.
A1 Team Malaysia CEO Jack Cunningham said that the party was to thank the Team’s sponsors, without whom the team would not have been able to participate in the ‘World Cup of Motorsports’. Also present were Mr. David Clare, the CEO of A1GP Asia Pacific.
The A1 GP is a series of races held at various racing circuits around the world. All teams drive single-seater cars that are mechanically the same, and it all goes down to car set-up, preparation and driver skill. Teams represent their home countries, and each race is preceded by the announcement, “For the pride of your nations, gentlemen, START YOUR ENGINES.” I suppose that if ever there was a lady racer, this signature starting comment would have to be modified a little:)
The star of the show was Alex Yoong, who at 30, is the director and Principal Driver of the A1 Team Malaysia. The team have been quite successful in the 06/07 season, getting three overall victories, twice in the sprint race at Brno (Czech Republic) and in Mexico. The team also won the feature race in Mexico, and were placed sixth overall in the final placings for the year.
Alex also introduced the entire team that is involved in the A1 Team Malaysia, and explained their individual roles, all of which are vital to the team effort.
