Sepang Circuit All Set for F1 Testing
Sepang F1 Circuit, Saturday, 24 March 2007 – The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is all geared up for the first ever Formula One testing session to be held here here next week, ahead of the forthcoming Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix scheduled for April 6 – 8.
Since 22 March, two days ago, more than 600 tons of F1 equipment belonging to the various teams have started to come in by air from Melbourne in the wake of the Australian Grand Prix, with the last shipment, consisting mostly of television equipment, (being low priority at this moment in time), coming in by next Tuesday.
“Naturally, with the Official F1 Teams Testing happening next week, the priority would be for the cars and racing equipments for the teams,” says Yunus Malek, who heads the Logistic Deparment and Team Servicing, adding that except for Spyker-Ferrari, all the other teams would be taking part in the three-day test.
“Based on the information that we received to-date, the Spyker-Ferrari would not be among the teams testing from 27th to 29th March next week,” added Yunus.
With close support provided by the Customs Department, Yunus said that the Formula One cargo had a swift clearance at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to move to the circuit, adding that the department had also put some of its officials at the circuit to monitor the movement and offloading exercise.
Race fans will be able to watch their favourite teams and drivers trying out the cars on the test days, and the good news is that entrance to the grand stands is free of charge.
