The Science Behind Tyres – KLIMS 2006
Visitors to the Kuala Lumpur International Motorshow 2006 (KLIMS 2006), scheduled to take place from May 26 to June 4 at the Putra Worldtrade Centre in downtown KL will be viewing not only flashy cars and engines can also witness the different technologies that evolved in the making and design of tyres. YHI (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, the distributors for the Yokohama brand of tyres will be exhibiting a variety of tyres tailored to suit different makes of cars for ultimate performance.
If you are a sports car owner, you will be bear witness to YHI (Malaysia)’s introduction of the new ADVAN Sport tyre. Specially designed for the super sports car with ultra high-speed capabilities, the ADVAN Sport tyre is claimed to be able to offer stable driving performance even at over 300km/h (size dependent) due to an exclusively developed compound that creates a grip unaffected by extreme low or high temperatures. In addition, it is also said to maximize performance at high speed and in severe wet conditions due to its unique asymmetrical pattern featuring four wide and straight grooves providing total balance between sport and comfort performance.
The ADVAN Sport was developed in conjunction with the Bentley Continental GT to be equipped as a standard tyre for this world’s fastest 4 seats coupe with the maximum speed of 318 km/h.
ADVAN, born in 1978 is a renowned name in the world of motorsports and has a well-earned reputation at the racetrack – such as the Le Mans, FIA Production car World Rally Championship, Super GT Series and Super Taikyu Series. During Asia’s number-one touring car race, the Super GT Series, in March 2005 at the Okayama International Circuit, Japan, there were 20 ADVAN equipped cars out of 43. The winning car was also equipped with ADVAN.
YHI (Malaysia) will also be showcasing the new ADVAN S.T for the sports utility vehicles (SUVs) drivers and the new “DNA dB ES501” from the “Silent Tyre” category, both by Yokohama. ADVAN S.T is a new-concept tyre that adds a new dimension to SUV performance by offering stable handling for the latest SUVs at up to 300km/h. According to YHI, the new tyre’s “W-shaped” multi-directional tread pattern and large blocks with a newly adopted “5-pitch variation” offer the ultimate balance between high sport performance and comfort.
The “Silent Tyre” is established as a new category in the market with “Aspec dB” in 1999. As the new upgraded member of “dB” family, Yokohama will introduce the Ultimate Silence, the new “DNA dB ES501.” Based on Yokohama’s latest technology, the “DNA dB ES501” is equipped with features such as 5-pitch variation, 4 wide straight grooves, round sipes and variable combination sipes, all contributing to effectively reduce noise while providing excellent water drainage and improving performance on wet surface.
Other brands YHI (Malaysia) will be displaying in KLIMS 2006 are Achilles Tyres and alloy wheels from Advanti Racing, Enkei and OZ.
Besides tyres and alloy wheels, YHI (Malaysia) will also be showcasing the Hitachi Automotive Batteries that offer maintenance free advantage and low self-discharge, low electrolyte consumption and calcium lead alloy usage. These batteries are also claimed to have long life due to its new designed grids and reinforced, long life B3 Grid (Bold Bone Book-Mold Grid).
