Petaling Jaya, 20 October 2005 – Back in the early 1980’s, names like Walter Rohl, Hannu Mikkola, and the world-famous lady World Rally Championship driver, Michelle Mouton reverberated across the world, as they piloted their Audi Quattros to victory after victory in the World Rally Championships. With superior four-wheel-drive, and with power boosted by turbochargers, the Quattros ruled supreme. The Quattros spurred many other makers to develop similar cars, and 4WD soon became essential if you wanted to win a WRC rally.

“Audi quattro stands for permanent traction, exceptional dynamism and fast, safe travel,” said Jeff Yee, Chief Executive Officer for Euromobil Sdn Bhd during a media event celebrating 25 years of quattro at the Audi Hangar in Shah Alam.

He added, “The technological principle of quattro is a major element of Audi’s brand success and is a key differentiator for us and those who drive our cars.”
During the event, guests were given an insight into the history of Audi quattro which was introduced to the public 25 years ago on March 3, 1980 at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland.

With the 4WD concept refined by the addition of a centre differential between the axles, later to use the Torsen principle, the first quattro went on sale in late 1980. This coupe model with its sharp-edged styling became very popular with its permanent all-wheel drive and 200-bhp, five-cylinder turbocharged engine. In this configuration, it was able to offer sporty high performance, superior traction and superb handling around corners.

Between 1982 and 1984 the quattro gained four world rally championship titles, and the exploits of its now legendary drivers have remained unforgotten to this day. Following these successes on loose-surfaced sand and gravel tracks, the manufacturer’s competition department concentrated on circuit racing, and here too the supremacy of the quattro permanent all-wheel-drive principle was patently obvious as the Audi quattro drivers collected many prestigious trophies in the USA and in Europe.
As the years wore on, the ‘original quattro’ grew into an entire family of road-legal all-wheel-drive models, and today the flagship of any model is usally a Quattro. In the 25 years up to the end of 2004, Audi built 1,815,396 quattro vehicles, and the current model programme includes 74 versions with all-wheel drive. Thanks to continuous technical updating, the reputation of the quattro all-wheel driveline is today stronger and more active then ever before.
In conjunction with its quattro celebrations, Euromobil also unveiled the final addition to the A4 model range for the Malaysian market this year – the new Audi A4 2.0 litre Turbo FSI quattro. Incidentally, the FSI engine is Audi’s latest generation engine that delivers what I would term as sweet power, something that would be appreciated by true drivers.

“The Audi A4 range is our best selling model and we see it as reflective of the market demands. It appeals to those who want it all – good looks, sports performance, outstanding safety and high quality at attractive prices. With this latest addition, driving enthusiasts can now enjoy even better handling and outstanding traction,” explained Yee.

The A4 2.0 litre Turbo FSI quattro® is priced at an attractive RM292,377.40.
