Tokyo, 18th October 2003 – Asian Honda Co., Ltd., Honda’s Bangkok based Asia Oceania Regional Headquarters, today announced that the all-new 8th generation of the Honda Civic will soon start to roll off production lines across the region with variants precisely tailored to meet the needs and aspirations of customers in individual markets.
Speaking to a meeting of leading motoring journalists from across the region at Honda’s Toshigi R & D Centre in Japan, Mr. Satoshi Toshida, Senior Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, Asia-Oceania Region, Honda Motor Co., Ltd., and President and Chief Executive Officer, Asian Honda Co., Ltd., predicted that the new Civic would quickly establish itself as the new global benchmark for 1.8 litre mid-size sedans.
“This 8th generation Civic,” he said, “features substantive improvements in all the key measures of an automobile’s value, including a sportier driving performance combined with improved fuel economy, strengthened environmental friendliness and enhanced packaging and has been tailored to meet our customers’ expectations in individual markets across the region.”
The Civic has been Honda’s best selling model, with Honda having a cumulative production of 16 million units since its introduction in 1972. This new Civic will meet Euro 4 emissions standards level, introduced in the EU this year, and effectively places the Civic ahead of all the existing national emissions regulation requirements.
Currently, the Civic is being manufactured in 11 locations around the world, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines and Thailand. By 2006, this will be expanded to include China, India and Vietnam. Honda Taiwan will also commence production in 2006.
The Civic was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month, and tomorrow, it will be on display at the Tokyo Motor Show.
