Eon Denies Any Knowledge of Proton Acquiring a Stake in Eon

SHAH ALAM 13 October 2005 – Edaran Otomobil Nasional Berhad (EON) in a statement to Bursa Malaysia today, announced that neither the board of directors of EON nor its major shareholders has knowledge nor have the parties deliberated on PROTON acquiring a stake in EON.

The statement was made in response to an article that had been published in The Star Bizweek on Saturday 8 October which made reference to –

1. “Proton Holdings Bhd may consider the acquisition of DRB-HICOM Bhd’s 29.3 per cent stake in vehicle distributor Edaran Otomobil Nasional Berhad (EON).”
2. “Proton to inject its wholly owned car distributor Proton Edar Sdn Bhd into EON.”
