PLENTY OF GT QUEENS TO THRILL FANS AT THE JAPAN GT RACE IN SEPANG

With the attendance of over 100 GT Queens, the upcoming 2005 Japan GT Championship Malaysia will have a sideshow that will be as thrilling and exciting as the battle of the mean GT machines at Sepang Circuit next month.

“With 45 cars and at least two GT Queens for each car plus our three official GT Babes that are already here, we should have more than 100 GT Queens in Sepang for the event,” says Japan GT Association (GT-A) spokesman Sotoru Tsuyama.

Tsuyama, who is the Pacific Rim Region Manager for the GT-A, said the GT Queens were as important as the drivers in the Japan GT Championship, which has been renamed as the Super GT Series following its expansion outside Japan.

“I can say that some of the GT Queens are even more popular than some of the drivers. They have their own fan club and their own web-site in Japan,” added Tsuyama, whose current assignment in Malaysia includes ushering the GT Babes – Kaoru Asami, Aki Kogochi and Mai Akiyama around Malaysia and Singapore for promotions of the event.

Part time models in Tokyo, Kaoru, Aki and Mai would be attending the Japan GT road shows as well as other promotions programmes conducted by partners of SIC and the Japan GT Association for publicity of the race.

Sepang would stage Round 3 of an eight-round Super GT Series from June 24 to 26 where a total of 19 cars would be competing in the GT500 class for the 500bhp machines and 26 others in the GT300 class for the 300bhp machines.

Dressed in skimpy outfits emblazoned with logos identifying the respective teams and their sponsors at the paddocks to meet the spectators, the gorgeous and friendly GT Queens – some top models in Japan – have been a major attraction to local fans since the Japan GT race came to Malaysia in 2000.

Unique to the GT championships, spectators are allowed to visit the paddocks on qualifying and final days to mingle with their favorite girls and drivers and also when the cars are on the starting grid on the final day by purchasing the special pit walkabout passes.

Apart from the GT race in Sepang, fans can also catch the support races, which include the Formula Renault and Round 3 of the Malaysian Super Series which will feature the classic car races, the supercars, supersaloon and 1600cc machines for the supersixteen championship.

The duties of the Japan GT Queens to promote the 2005 Japan GT Championship Malaysia would be supported by local GT Queens, who would be selected by SIC and its partner Highway Autocity in Juru, Pulau Pinang through special GT Queen pageants.

“We would be organizing a Autocity GT Queen Pageant in conjunction with our Auto-City Motorsports Show 2005 from June 2 to June 5,” said Gary Teoh, the Managing Director of Highway Autocity.

Gary said that the GT Queen pageant, which would see some 25 local beauties taking part, was a major programme for the Motorsports show, which would include the Japan GT Car Look-A-Like, GT Car road demonstration, superbike rides, motorcross, exhibitions and display of race and sports cars.

Sepang International Circuit, on the other hand, would be organizing a Malaysian GT Queen competition with the finals to be held at the circuit during the GT race on June 25.
