JAPAN GT 2004 GOES TO USA
Tokyo, Nov 2, 2004- The Japan GT Championship 2004 Series will be extended to the United States when two events, the ALL STAR GT 200 exhibition race and the JGTC ALL-STAR sprints, are held at the California Speedway on Dec 18 – 19.
The GT-A of Japan, the organizers of Japan GT Championship announced today that 21 participants, 10 cars in GT500 class and 11 cars in the GT300 class, have so far confirmed participation in the two events.
This is the first time Japan GT has come to the USA. So far the seven-round championship series has only one race outside of Japan and this is held in the Sepang Circuit, Malaysia. Plans are also being made for Japan GT to be held in Shanghai, China next year.
In the US event, Nissan has the top number of entries followed by Honda and Toyota.
A statement from Japan GT organizers said that the JGTC in the US is perceived to be the ultimate race of “imported cars” and “sports compact cars”, and is targeted at a market segment group of about 80 million in California, on the US west coast.
“GT LIVE will also be the theme park of cars that consists of go-kart events, autocross events,, car shows, competitions and driving demonstrations, race queens, music and shopping”.
Intending participants for the exhibition race must submit their entries by 3 p.m. on Dec 18 while those participating in the sprints must submit their entries by Dec 19, 2004.
