Volvo Car Asia Pacific has announced the appointment of How Wei Thing as Managing Director for Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM), effective 1st March 2004. She takes over from Wong Lup Hang who is believed to have joined another company in the local automotive industry.

Ms. How is no stranger to the automotive world, having held the position as Chief Financial Officer for VCM and Swedish Motor Assemblies, the Volvo-owned assembly plant in Shah Alam, Selangor.

An astute professional with more than 20 years in financial management, Ms How also brings to the position an in-depth understanding and solid experience in brand- and sales management of Volvo Cars in Malaysia. She has, over the years, established strong relationships with VCM’s retail business partners and has been an integral contributor to the business.

“I am honoured to be given this opportunity to continue the exciting phase of growth of the Volvo Car business in Malaysia. Volvo is a premium European brand with a long standing reputation in building one of the safest cars in the world. This reputation, coupled with care for the environment and high standards of built quality is centered around a network of professional retailers which are focussed on delivering a unique customer experience in the buying and owning process,” said Ms How, who joined the company in 1999 and is the second female MD (the first was Lena Olving).

“These are exciting times, particularly with Volvo Car having made tremendous inroads in Malaysia over recent years, with the introduction of the highly-acclaimed XC90, an award-winning SUV which won the prestigious accolade of Malaysia’s ‘Car of the Year 2003’ and similar accolades all over the world. And there is more to come…,” she added.

“I am confident that with our premium range of products and customer centred services, comprehensive marketing plans and a further extension of our product offerings Volvo Car Malaysia is poised for extensive growth in the coming years,” said Ms How.

Volvo Car Malaysia Sdn Bhd is the importer and wholesaler of Volvo cars. It was incorporated in May 1999 and is a subsidiary of Volvo Car Corporation. VCM works in collaboration with its local partners Federal Auto Cars Sdn Bhd and Swedish Marque Sdn Bhd, the authorized dealers of Volvo Cars who, together, have a network of seven showrooms and eight service centres located in key market centres in Peninsular Malaysia. VCM also functions to support its partners, by providing global competence in key areas – sales and dealer operations, customer service, training and brand and product marketing.
