Although it is only going to be in the European showrooms next year, smart has decided to show the public its new and larger model which is known as the forfour.

Measuring 3.75 metres long – the original 2-seat model (introduced 5 years ago) is only 2.5 metres long – and with five doors, this is a bigger smart car and has four side doors.

Full technical details are not available at this time but it is known that the platform is based on the latest Mitsubishi Colt – a clear sign that DaimlerChrysler is intent on getting synergies among its many units.

Like all smart models, the key product values typical to the brand, which include the Tridion safety cell and the use of two colours, are enriched with new ideas in this four-seater. Buyers will have a choice of three petrol and two diesel variants.

The ‘inner life’ of the smart forfour also offers an innovative space concept, and typical smart solutions which will be available for the first time in the small car segment.

The features of the smart forfour are both emotive and functional. This five-door car has an individual profile, offering driving pleasure with a sporty touch. Despite its compact dimensions, there is space for all the safety features typical to smart.

With the smart forfour, the smart designers and developers have developed an independent car with a strong character for the small car segment, which is a new interpretation of the standards set by the city-coupé, smart cabrio, smart crossblade, smart roadster and smart roadster-coupé.

A smart roadster was in Kuala Lumpur during the F1 week and while DaimlerChrysler Malaysia says that it has no plans to offer the model, it is nevertheless inviting comments from the public to see if it should consider making smart cars available.
