Penang Bridge to Georgetown in 5 minutes
Until now, if you entered Penang island by the Penang Bridge, getting to Georgetown meant a rather complicated route through jammed roads and a journey time of 45 minutes to reach the Esplanade. Or if you stayed at Bayview Hotel and wanted to depart via the bridge, you had to drive inland and for the occasional visitor, the chances of getting lost were quite high!
For some reason, Penang’s planners of past years never thought about a road which would run from Bayan Lepas/Glugor to Georgetown along the eastern coast.
Now that link is finally in existence in the form of the 3.6-km long Jelutong Expressway. This link means that the drive from the Penang Bridge to Georgetown will take just 5 minutes… and no toll.
