Daewoo Scope Concept
Meeting the different requirements of consumers is a big challenge for designers these days. A single-purpose model like a sedan is no longer suited for today’s lifestyles full of activity.
GM Daewoo’s Scope concept car offers one approach to this challenge and is said to be the company’s vision of ‘an automotive answer to the lifestyle of the future’. It combines the dynamics and maneuverability of a sportscar with the robustness of an all-terrain vehicle.

With a total length of 4474 mm on a wheelbase of 2650 mm (about the same length as a Honda CR-V), it has an aerodynamic, wedge-shaped body. The cabin-forward design and the prominent, vertical radiator grille are masculine and assertive, underlining the Scope’s off-road capabilities.
Seen from the side, this Daewoo crossover has a coupé-style roofline leading to a dynamically styled rear view with semi-circular window and wrap-around tail-lights. The Scope rolls on attractively styled, six-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels (255/55 R18 tyres).
Despite its sporty appearance, the Scope is said to offer a roomy, comfortable interior with space for seven passengers. Since there is no B-pillar, the rear doors of the Scope are hinged at the back of the vehicle. When both the front and rear doors are open, boarding the vehicle is exceptionally easy.
The flexible interior layout has numerous seat configurations and several concealed storage spaces. In addition, there’s only one remote control for the doors as well as the stereo system, which can be quite practical, for example during a picnic. Even the engine can be started using the same wireless control unit.
The Scope’s multimedia system includes navigation, television, radio, DVD and even displays the view outside using a mirror camera. All information is displayed on a wide-screen instrument panel.
The Scope’s proposed powerplant is a compact, 6-cylinder, transversely mounted engine from GM Daewoo’s XK product line. This all-aluminium DOHC engine has a displacement of 2492 cc and an output of 115 kW/156 bhp at 5800 rpm. Maximum torque of 245 Nm which peaks at 4000 rpm.
Given the completeness of the Scope’s design, don’t be surprised if it appears as a production model eventually.
