Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution 2
In 2001, Mitsubishi Motors displayed an exciting concept SUV based on the Pajero, underlining its performance aspect by using the emotive ‘Evolution’ name as well. While last year’s model was a sheer expression of passion and enthusiasm, this year’s model – the Pajero Evolution 2 – is a more realistic road-going car. The new concept car, shown in Paris, boasts sophisticated styling, additional seating and upgraded trim for a civilized drive about town-or in any other situation.
The Pajero Evolution 2 is the striking vision of a new global design team with a new design philosophy now that DaimlerChrysler is affiliated with the Japanese company.
Certain design elements and specifications that were reflected in last year’s competitive model were once again emulated. For example, the functional elegance of the Pajero is complemented with design elements that inspire passion and awaken the senses. As on the other recent Mitsubishi concept cars, the logo mark is larger and is integral with the front-end design. But unlike the other cars, on the Pajero Evolution 2, it also serves to reinforce the link between Mitsubishi’s successful rally activities and its production cars.
For a civilized look and feel that befits Mitsubishi’s vision of the ultimate 4WD town car, quality appointments were installed inside and out. The front end benefits from a new grille design that expresses the powerful performance, while a new rear wing adds a sporty and functional touch to the all-purpose civility of the car. Two new seats and more sophisticated materials and design highlight the enhancements to the interior and encourage up to four occupants to enjoy the Pajero adventure in comfort and luxury.
While going for greater refinements, the designers of the Pajero Evolution 2 did not forget its roots. Mitsubishi’s achievement of this year’s Dakar rally has advanced what Mitsubishi seeks in its quest for the ultimate in SUV performance, and this year’s model better reflects that.
In addition to the advanced drivetrain technologies that were featured on last year’s model, such as Super Select 4WD, AYC (Active Yaw Control), and ACD (Active Centre Differential), the Pajero Evolution 2 is equipped with a 4.7-litre V8 engine (the first time for a Mitsubishi SUV) for all-terrain performance.
