Citroen C-Crosser

French carmaker Citroen is well known for being an innovator and has often offered technical features in its cars which are way ahead of time. Therefore it is hardly surprising that whenever there is a motorshow, some of the most interesting concept models can be found at the Citroen stand.

At this year’s Frankfurt show, the company presented the ‘C-Crosser’, its idea of the leisure vehicle of the future. A significant point in the concept is the adaptability of the vehicle, especially in bodywork and internal layout.

With its modular bodywork, the C-Crosser can be easily converted into a pick-up when, at the push of a button, the tailgate and roof disappear into the floor (no more having to decide between a SUV or pick-up!). To create a cargo deck, the rear seats can also be hidden away after which a floor of 2.28 sq. metres is available. In this configuration, the front section can be sealed in by raising a glass panel behind the front seats.

The front section, which has seating for three, has a unique concept which allows the driving position to be set in either left, right or even centre position. This is because of the drive-by-wire technology used which dispenses with the conventional mechanical links for the steering, brake and engine systems. Instead, everything is done by electronic impulses sent along wires which can be easily stretched across the width of the cabin.
