i was driving on the highway to Ipoh the other day.

all three lanes are busy. fast lane, is the highest speed at around 110km/h - 120km/h.

then came an idiot flashing like no tomorrow behind me. tailgating me and all.

why is it that this particular idiot understand that its DANGEROUS to tailgate?

why is it that this idiot cant see past my car that it is heavy traffic, and all car lanes are used to ease flow?

why is it that this idiot think that he owns the highway?

i think the road ettiquete in Malaysia is really really bad.
1) cutting queue at traffic lights. (if everyone can queue, why cant you?)
2) not stopping for zebra crossing (if you knock someone, you might change someone's life forever)
3) tail-gating (can you really afford to pay for rear-ending someone?)
4) accelerating when Amber is shown at traffic lights (its against the rules and dangerous)
5) flashing some one repeatedly when clearly there is no change to pass (or heavy traffic)

The reason for lack of etiquette is simple -> lack of enforcement.
Catching is one thing, which is already lacking.
Enforcing is another, with the defaulters given 1Malaysia discount, instead of double/triple the compound.

i usually only drive in Ipoh. now, i am working in KL. i realised that KL drivers can be really barbaric.

i think, we should be cultured enough to not rely on enforcement to mitigate bad driving behaviour.

if traffic lights are red, we really shouldnt need cameras to catch us going pass it.

if there are pedestrians crossing on zebra crossing, we really dont need the police to stop us for not stopping.

Yes, tailgating is an offense and is dangerous but so is road hogging.

No. 1 Rule on the highway

110km/h is for all lanes. it is speed limit. not speed limit for middle lanes and left lanes only.

if someone is going 80km/h in the middle, then you use the right lane. but no more than 110km/h

it is only road hogging if you driving way below the speed limit. say speed limit is 90km/h, you drive 70km/h.

Road hogging means that u are blocking a faster car.

Plain and Simple

imagine if 3 cars, drove at 110 km/h on each lane of the highway, is that following the Highway Rules by keeping to the Speed Limit.

U obviously have not seen the signboard saying "Ikut Kiri jika tidak memotong"

It does not say "pandu kanan dan ikut had laju"

Even when I drive > 110 km/h, I use the middle lane. I only use the right lane if I am driving faster than the middle lane and I will move in for a faster car.
