i was driving on the highway to Ipoh the other day.

all three lanes are busy. fast lane, is the highest speed at around 110km/h - 120km/h.

then came an idiot flashing like no tomorrow behind me. tailgating me and all.

why is it that this particular idiot understand that its DANGEROUS to tailgate?

why is it that this idiot cant see past my car that it is heavy traffic, and all car lanes are used to ease flow?

why is it that this idiot think that he owns the highway?

i think the road ettiquete in Malaysia is really really bad.
1) cutting queue at traffic lights. (if everyone can queue, why cant you?)
2) not stopping for zebra crossing (if you knock someone, you might change someone's life forever)
3) tail-gating (can you really afford to pay for rear-ending someone?)
4) accelerating when Amber is shown at traffic lights (its against the rules and dangerous)
5) flashing some one repeatedly when clearly there is no change to pass (or heavy traffic)

simple....just give way to them whenever space permits then get back behind him..do the same... smile_thumbup.gif

Road hogging means that u are blocking a faster car.

Plain and Simple

imagine if 3 cars, drove at 110 km/h on each lane of the highway, is that following the Highway Rules by keeping to the Speed Limit.

U obviously have not seen the signboard saying "Ikut Kiri jika tidak memotong"

It does not say "pandu kanan dan ikut had laju"

Even when I drive > 110 km/h, I use the middle lane. I only use the right lane if I am driving faster than the middle lane and I will move in for a faster car.

i totally disagree with your definition of road-hogging.

Road hogging is proscribed as "every vehicle which is moving at a slow rate of speed shall be driven as close to the left-hand side of the roadway as possible" and "every vehicle shall at all times be driven in such manner as not to obstruct vehicles moving at a faster speed"

all rules apply within the speed limit.
Eg: speed limit is 110km/h
lane left is doing 70km/h
lane middle is doing 100km/h

car A is in middle lane, wants to drive at the speed limit (110km/h), how would he do it?

based on your explanation, he has to suck it up and drive at 100km/ in the middle lane. which in reality are the real road hoggers? do explain.

Actually, i don't really see the problem. To be franked what you need to do is put your right signal light 'ON' till it is safe to move back to middle and let the idiot go...

He is reporting the 'DEATH' and why we stopping them? We aren't GOD to save life and as long as we do our best is enough..

Alternatively, you let him overtake and your flash him back by chasing him closely.. and he let you overtake and start to flash you again and again and again and again until one cannot stand where fighting and killing starts.... smile_sleepy.gif

Speed limit rules:

While the speed limit signs serve to guide us on our driving speeds on the road, motorists should continue to exercise their judgment and adjust their speeds accordingly where necessary, to ensure their safety and that of other road users. We should NOT exceed the speed limit of our vehicle or the road, whichever is the lower.

The speed limit shall not apply to any:

Fire engine used for the purpose of extinguishing fires, of preserving life and property in case of fire or of aiding or rescuing persons in danger, or in case of an accident;

Ambulance used for the purpose of aiding or rescuing persons in danger, or in case of an accident; or

Motor vehicle owned by the Government

Dear James or is it Paul,

I dislike replying too many times to a specific individual but the rules of the highway are simple.

Always give way to a faster vehicle.

I have given way at speeds in excess of 160 km/h to a faster car (think it was either VR2Turbo or Rally Champ going close to 200 km/h).

By maintaining the legal speed limit at the Right Lane when there is a faster car behind you, you are Road Hogging. If you can't be faster than the car behind, get the hell out of the way.

All the fellow drivers here who agree with this mantra, please indicate so and if you disagree, then please also tell me so. For all I know, what I have been doing for the past 15-years is wrong and I should start doing the right thing. Never to late for me to learn the errors of my way.

You are free to keep to the speed limit of 110 km/h if you wish. Just don't go to the Right Lane and maintain that speed when you can see that there is a faster car coming behind your rear view mirror.

If you are already at the Right Lane and a faster car wants to overtake and the middle lane is busy, speed up past 110 km/h and put your left signal so that the car behind knows that you are going to move to the middle lane.

If you have no intention to move to the middle and intend to stick to the speed limit of 110 km/h, then you are plain selfish and one day, I pray that when you are rushing for an medical emergency, you don't get stuck behind an equally selfish driver like yourself. What goes around comes around.

you obviously didnt understand what i am trying to say, if i drive alone on an empty road, 110km/h on the highway. agreed road hogging.

but, if the middle lane is slower than the 110km/h with traffic. and i am happily driving at the highway on the right lane (with other cars doing 110km/h, i dont think that is road hogging.

also, if you have medical emergency, use the ambulance. the ambulance is excused of the rules of speed limit.

obviously, you are a very unsympathetic person with poor mannerism, the fact that you wish some one you dont even know unwell ( "I pray that when you are rushing for an medical emergency, you don't get stuck behind an equally selfish driver like yourself." ).

driving for more than 15 years doesnt make you a better driver. you have been walk for 30 years, are you a better walker?

obviously, your ego needs check, thinking that something that you are doing habitually is correct is just sad.

ok ok...pls don't get into a brawl first thing first...

lets say a scenario on 3lane highways...

left shoulder lane: emergency lane (for emergency situation/breakdown vehicle..not some shortcut extra lane)

left lane: slow vehicle (no matter how big it is or how heavy it is or how many tyres it does have)

middle lane: fast vehicle (but still keeping to speed limit)

right lane: overtaking lane (no matter how fast it is..after overtaking was done, one should return to middle lane a.k.a fast lane)

if all people abide and fully understand this highway code i don't really think we have much problem on the roads smile_thumbup.gif

Yup, right lane is overtaking lane. I drive 110kph on the highway on middle lane. If there is one doing 100kph, then I overtake on right lane then go back in to middle lane and continue at 110kph..... smile_tongue.gif
