RM140k for a 2005 car is good news to us S40 owners. Unfortunately, I was
only quoted RM110k for my 2004 model by SM for trade in eventhough I had
less 30000km clocked in. I was toying with the idea of changing to the
V50 in October 2005 but was put off straight away by the awful trade in
price offered.

I would assume with the new discount, I would not be surprised if the
trade in price is now 90-100k!

All things said, the S40 is still a great runabout car to have in the
city.

Volvo should give more incentives for people upgrading from one Volvo for
another. That trade-in value offered really sucks!

I was toying for quite a while whether to buy a new S40 or look for 2nd
hand. I visited almost all the SM & FA showrooms and I observed that SM
salesman gives the best professional service. But in terms of discount,
freebies and over-trade incentives, FA can come-up with better deals!

Actually before the current 173k promotion, I had already manage to nego
with FA for a deal that is worth more than the current promotion discount.
So moral of story, is people looking for the new S40 but is unsure about it
yet, advise is don't rush the purchase. I'm quite certain you can still
nego for this price even when this promo is over.

Guys,

I feel your pain too as I lost RM75k on my 1998 Toyota Harrier :-( I was
fortunate to wait and enjoy the RM173k price for the S40 which I just
picked up last week.

I had test drove other cars like the new Camry - only looks good but
engine too noisy from inside - bad interior finish, Accord - new butt
looks like s#%t - dashboard very plain!, Mazda6 - powerful engine but
still Japanese feel, Merc C200 Kompressor - why pay additional RM65k??

With the blessing of the kids, wife, in-laws & out-laws, I'm very happy
with the steal of the S40 which now has the extra features mentioned by
Sotong.....

Hey jawajoe,

The new S40 you picked-up - is it a 06 or 07 manufactured? My understanding
is Volvo only has 07 stock only in Mar/Apr?

Hi Bangbus,

It's manufactured in 06 and you're right that the 07 model is only
available in Mar/Apr. Why wait as the one I have is similar to the 07
model which includes memory driver's seat, headlamp washers, shark fin
antenna & MP3/IPod connection.

Hi jawajoe,

Yes you are right the specs maybe the same, except I think there is 1
difference, the CD-changer unit is actually MP3/WMA compatible rather then
using an AUX input. (This is what I gather from the international Volvo
website for the 2007 changes. Whether the Msia version will have this
feature or not is another story!).

But if resale value doesn't concern you then it does not matter. When its
time you need to sell your car, buyers will see it as a 2006 unit and you
loose out a few Ks there.

In any case, congrats on your new ride. Which color did you pickup? Will be
able to join the club soon too.

Another question. For the 173k price, was there a T&C stated that you need
to take a 06 model or could you request for a 07 model but only expect
delivery in Mar?

Hi Bangbus,

Not to sure about the Aux input, anyway not using it as having 6 CDs is
more than enough.

I don't mind losing a few Ks since I already got the 7K discount and being
in sales, I even paid an additional RM100 to a runner to get my road tax &
registration card from JPJ.

The color of my car is PASSION RED and what club are you refering to.

The salesman specifically told me that I will be getting the 06 model to
enjoy the 7k discount and is only valid until a certain date...sorry can't
remember but think its in the Volvo advert.

Actually hor.. The S40 uses the same chassis as the Ford Focus and Mazda
3 leh...So the S40 should not be compared to the Merc C Class or the BMW
3 Series.

As such, IMHO the S40 alternatives are... Waja, Civic, Corolla Altis,
Mazda 3, Ford Focus etc etc...

maybe u are right, s40 couldn't be compared directly to C-class or 3
series..it should be S60..but the performace S40 is already onpar with
the two German brand lor..so no need to use S60 to compare..
