VW owners, could you please share your experiences here? Please do not selfish or feel shame to share here. I am thinking upgrade to VW Golf after suffering for Peugeot. But gear box issue is really a major one and it involve my family safety!

ckl-san,
Don't mean to be sarcastic or any insult; seriously, if you want a stress free motoring, I would go as far as to suggest, steer clear from VW ( I do not have other marque real life experience); despite the fact parts availability has improved over time, it still does not justify nor explained on some pre-mature parts failure. My recent encounter is the CrossTouran I bought for my wife, the hatch latch malfunction after 30K km of usage. smile_big.gif
Please don't PM me.

Agreed, if u want prob free motoring....just steer clear of vw's, yeap they are a joy to drive but does it justified the hassle?....my 2 yrs old golf need clutch pack replacement, now waiting for parts & then after this need to leave the car for around 3 days at the SC. If u dont want the hassle, just get a Japs or even a Korean( i used to owned a Hyundai Trajet for almost 7 years wtout any prob, just send for normal services).....Now, I'm getting worried wt my 8 mths old Cross Touran....

Me and among friends brought 11 vw, which including 1 polo tsi, 4 jetta, 1 golf tsi, 2 gti, 1 sharan, 1 passat cc and 1 golf R. So far, the 7 speed dsg vw received recalled for mechatronic unit changed and clutch changed. After that, so far so good, the rest not facing any problems for more than 2 years of ownership.

Ps: I'm going to buy another mk7 soon for my wife.

Mine started at 30K, changed the clutch plate, settle the issues ...for a while. At 60K, changed the Megatronic, settle the issue...for a while. At 90K, the problem is getting seriously serious, not only judder a low speed, the gear does not lock even at D5 onwards. Before I got an appointment to do checking, my piston ring came lose, compression fall and the whole engine need to be replaced. Now waiting for the new engine from Germany. Das Auto somemore ? Maybe not for me

Das Autar more likely, looks like after sending the golf for clutch pack replacement this coming few days i would most prob dispose it before more prob arise.....looks like the dsg7 is full of prob and not worth the time spending to be going back & forth the service centre. such a hassle....

I could see many golf on the road previously. But the volume reduces to hardly noticeable on the road out of sudden, there must be reason.
Samething happened to old sonata (like merz that time) and current sonata. When it was just launching, I saw many on the road but hardly see one on the road now. K5 is taking over.

Agreed. Although it comes with a 5 year warranty, just imagine to have to spent RM2K per month renting another car. Replacement/Loan car from VW? Fat chances

Collected my golf last week after 4 days at the SC, turn out not just the clutch pack being replaced but the mecha unit too! ..after replacing the clutch pack, they were supposed to test drive the car but after shifting to D, the gear does not engaged and car not moving at all. End up they have to replace the mecha unit too. Luckily, they have stock.....phew.

Now scared already if the prob return & if my touran would have the same prob too later........hmm, looks likely going back to the run of the mills japs (M6/m3 & CRV combo shud good..compared to current golf/C.Touran combo..shud be more bullet proof too)...less headache but gonna miss the handling & drive quality.
