I wonder if the wet type Powershift in the S-Max and Mondeo have the same characteristics. I would like to hear from the owners. smile.gif

My S-max doesn't have the problem I faced in my Focus. I think the S-max shift smoother than Focus as far as I can feel. At slow speed would still fell a little jerky sometimes but not as bad as Focus. I know how to control that already so not a problem for me for both cars.

For Focus, I realized there is another problem when I went up ramp and back to flat floor like going up a parking garage, the gear remains low for a moment and it revs high until I had to let go of the accelerator for it to change back to higher gear. I don't experience this with my S-max. Is that software issue? Anyone updated the software or code or whatever they call?

For most of us this is probably the first time we are driving a car with DCT (dual clutch transmission). Having experienced it it has a different characteristic than the torque converter type autos we are use to. So too is its construction.

The DCT is definitely not nice to use at slow speeds and stop/start city driving condition. So long as it is reliable (this, we've yet to find out) I can live with this small irritant.

I concur with you.
After driving DCT for the past month or so, getting so used to the smooth transition of gears, the way the power is delivered to the wheels, i am suddenly shock at what i didn't notice previously with the torque converter. Long waiting time to change gears, the sluggish feel and most apparent would be the jerkiness of a torque converter.
I'm just comparing the FEEL of a DCT v/s a TC gear box ...

Actually, what is this jerking problem with dual-clutch that you guys are talking about? Can you give some more details on the problem observation? When does it happen, in what situation and how does it felt? I may want to see if I can feel it during test drive.

Here are some pics I took at an auto parts exhibition in Shanghai last year.

My FoF ... is hitting 7000km now. Still has the grinding sound. What is interesting is the sound happens on certain roads that have speed bumps and when I have to slow down-do-a-turn-(at a corner)-and-accelerate-again. But not all speed bumps nor cornering will give grinding sounds. Only certain places. And at those places, the grinding sound can be very load and lasting for 3 - 5 seconds.

To say it is normal, I think it's not right. It's a defect to begin with. I hope Ford would find a solution to this known issue. This is the only issue I have with my Focus, apart from it can slide down backwards on a slope. Scarry, but not a big issue for me.

I hope to upgrade to the new software soon. Awaiting the Ford service center to slot me the time. Will let you know my experience once upgraded.

I had driven a DCT before on a VW. Never had this issue and changing of the gears are slippery smooth, quiet and predictable.

I'm having the same issue too, been driving it for a year, updated firmware, still the same.
Lately I switched to RON97, the issue reduce to very minimal.

So RON95 / RON97 you guys feeding on?

My Focus MK2 4 speed torque convertor have the same grinding sound when slow stop at traffic light or hump. During that time, Ford conclude is charactheristic of the gearbox.

5 years later and 100k km, no issue and sound still there smile_tongue.gif
