Thanks for the many replies.

I met up with my contractor Ah Chin and went in his Hilux for a short drive.
I found it not as noisy as I anticipated and the ride was acceptable, more planted on the road than my friends 4 year old big Triton. At the end of the ride, Ah Chin told me he intend to change his Hilux for the latest Hilux for next CNY 2013!

I saw a new dark Navara upside down a few months back near a traffic light in Glenmarie. It was raining so I am not sure if it was due to speeding and cornering same time or other issue.

I heard Colorado and Mazda have spares problems? What about Ford Ranger?

Especially Colorado - will have this .... & also on the technical service - no experience plp to do, ape hal ini macam ke, taruk kereta kita check check - infamous !

I asked about Ford in the Ford section of this forum and the only reply said that the service was good. If you are interested in a pick up truck, you should definitely consider the Ranger.

IMO, the Ranger is the best pick up truck which can double as a family vehicle. It has a lot of modern touches like bluetooth and a sedan like interior. It's also a handsome beast.

I'm not sure about the mysterious problems. What have you heard?

BTW, the Colorado 2.8 Auto is also impressive. Electric, leather seats, ESP, traction control, cruise control, 470NM of torque, nice interior.

The Japanese pick up trucks are just too industrial to double as family vehicles.

My shortlist:
HiLux 2.7 ltr turbodiesel
Navara
Triton
MazdaColorado

My priorities: car like handling + comfortable for 4 adults + quiet

I travel to Klang, PJ and Sungai Buloh a lot so I need to be mindful of road imperfections and sometimes floods.

Please tell me your views!

Hilux has newly release 2.5 vnt intercooler model. I found it very ok. Slightly bumpy but only when you drive too fast over bumps. It is not bouncy or vague like Triton. I like the Navara. Cornering I feel is not as confident as Hilux. I found the Ranger 2.2 very ok to drive. But I would skip the current model Ford Ranger now until all the issues are sorted out like Gear issue, Rusty fuel injectors, Turbo lag, and High service cost. Some dealers will not want a Ford as trade in later.

The BT-50 with its Ming the Merciless eyebrows is back on the agenda. Does anyone know if there are any common problems with it? I understand that the engine oil is much cheaper than Ford's and so the maintenance costs are much lower.

If you are serious into thinking about the Colorado, better check indepth about this car, car is good but.... check / ask around more about who is the franchise holder, can do the service for you - do they know wellabout this car and can they trouble shoot the problems if any? , where are the service center, how many are on the road in malaysia now, stop and ask any chevy owners of chevy brand, parts availablility, prices and stock and etc..... then decide
IMO - I hopre the few questions will help you to decide, and frankly any Jap trucks are more reliable .

I got to agree with you on this one. Colorado is a very nice, in fact best pick-up on the market at such a good price. However, when it comes to after sales especially with Naza with their infamous let you waiting for 3 months for spare parts - a big NO NO!

Plp who have experienced with them will know and agreed, at that price, design and specifications is a steal buy!!
A big waste for GM who was too greedy about their assembley plant and APs!!! A dead end for Chevy with them, good acrs but......was with the wrong hands! including so many good brands cars with them.....
mine 2 SUVs - as long as more than 3 months!!! from 1 to 2 yrs!!!! after till their warranty are over and they pass the buck to extended warranty -m and claimed on the insurance co, pity them but I dont car as long as I got my cliamed done , not by them either but but their authorised SC! what a world!

Just my 2 ct, without prejustice

I found the spec sheet for the BT-50 online. The 2.2 comes with ESP (they call it DSC) and traction control. We might have a winner. I'll pay Mazda a visit over the next couple of days and report back.

I'm assuming that if the Ranger has a problem with rusty fuel injectors, the BT-50 will have the same problem.
