Hi Hideiyoshi,
Whatever cars that are sold here, they must have transmission cooler especially enlarged version like the larger radiator suited to our temperature to prevent overheating. Straining the gearbox especially going uphill slope such as Genting and Cameron will require efficient cooling.
Problem is some of the car model doesn't have ATF cooler resulting into the gearbox kaput easily. Also some of the driver has the habit of leaving the gear lever into 'D' for few minutes instead of shifting to 'N' while waiting at traffic lights that causes autobox slips excessively and gearbox oil become hotter than usual.
That's why i not prefer to climb up Genting/Cameron with an automatic car (unless if deal with 1.8L - 2.0L NA and above, or Conti cars, or driving friend's car) coz don't want to shorten the lifespan of the auto gearbox that can cost a leg for replacement due to constant slipping when travel long uphill.
Instead manual car is highly preferred for me when climbing up Genting (you can see those Genting taxi, usually those old Nissan Sentra and Proton Wira still running strongly apart from more frequent maintenance schedule even the car is more than 10 years, but those Sentra already more than 15 years). Just the clutch need more frequent replacement (average 70k - 80k km compared to average >100k km) if one is regular traveller to Genting with manual car.
