1. the cold start engine rattling noise, i think its a miss conception thinking that the engine is flawed. It actually isnt. its a normal noise heard in modern turbo engines. its sound the same in a golf gti, polo, etc. The jerk that we encounter from cold start up that last from 5 secs to 30 secs, that is just shit design, possibly amplified by the fact that we are missing the 1st air/temp sensor that is found in the 175thp engines.
2. intermittent power loss? thats pretty general. I havent experience it, but if its knocking you are talking about, then its an issue very difficult to rectify.
3. thats old design. i think its been fixed in peugeot. it was a problem found in the early batch of engines which was then only used by mini.

Thing is khngooi.. Of the handful, tens, or hundreds of people facing these problems, there are thousands out there having no problem with their 308s or Minis or whatevers, enjoying it every day. Same as other makes that are manufactured in the masses. I personally believe its just your luck.. And maybe the SA you choose. Etc etc etc etc etc yad yad yad boring yahdiamlahwisconsin.

So it's really up to you what you want to buy. You can research up on all these negativity, know all the problems of the product you're buying, buy it, and end up getting screwed somewhere along the line somehow like maybe steering wheel patah, rims hancur tiada sebab or anak terbang keluar tingkap belakang ke ape pe lah.

Or post these stuff on forums telling the other owners of that car you wanted to buy that you having second thoughts, 3rd thoughts, fourth thoughts, or you won't buy it anymore. Then you go off and buy another car, and few weeks/months down the road you cry to your wife 'WHY DIDN'T I BUY THE OTHER CAR NOW I DRIVING THIS P.O.S!!!??!". 689.gif 689.gif 689.gif

Oh and by the way, why are people even revving their cars during cold starts? SLAMATMALAMTRMKASIH.

Dear Mr Wisconsin,

Well I choose to be safe rather than sorry and I wouldn't want to have a heap of useless metal on my driveway if you catch my gist. So why are you so defensive, or are you having seconds thoughts after buying it. And about the mini I think there are a lot of dis grunted owners, well I think you'll be if your car burst into flames on your driveway (just google BMW mini class action lawsuit). Well I'm just asking for advice and I'm not trying to flame anyone here ok. I'm not trying to start a japanese/korean vs. french/euro reliability war here and in fact I own a toyota and it has given me some headaches as well.

Well this problem has not been mentioned here by anyone and listening to the engine sound its not something anyone would ignore.
BTW there is someone whose mileage is like 75K so you have proof that this "problem" has not manifested itself here.
I also noticed that the articles refer to cars bought in 2008, so perhaps you worry too much.

Honestly I can't think of any car that's better than the 308T except for the Golf TSi but that's in another price category.

Agree with you on that count, and I did noticed that it looks like a really cold morning in one of the videos.. I hope it won't happen in our warm climate..

Yeap i catch what you're saying. Well it's really up to you and your own instinct/senses man. Choose what you feel good with and it will be good in your hands and eyes. Good luck.
