I'm contemplating to purchase the 308THP but after reading about all the problems that you guys are having I'm having second thoughts. The most worrying part is that I'd found a petition about a design flaw in the EP6 and EP6T aka VTI, THP 140, THP 150 engine.
See following:
This is a petition started by a bunch of french owners.

Another write-up about this issue. This one is from a MINI site which basically has the same engine as the Peugeot 308.

Apparently, there are a lot of complaints about loud engine rattles during cold starts.
To summarize:-
1. Starts with abnormally loud engine rattles during cold start, sounds like metal brushing against metal.
2. Intermittent power loss during acceleration
3. Timing chain failure, cam rocker failure, cam tensioner failure and etc.
Has anyone experienced this?

Well I don't think they won the reliability test..
Have to admit that it's an awesome engine... just a bit scared after reading all that..

Well this problem has not been mentioned here by anyone and listening to the engine sound its not something anyone would ignore.
BTW there is someone whose mileage is like 75K so you have proof that this "problem" has not manifested itself here.
I also noticed that the articles refer to cars bought in 2008, so perhaps you worry too much.
Honestly I can't think of any car that's better than the 308T except for the Golf TSi but that's in another price category.

So it's really up to you what you want to buy. You can research up on all these negativity, know all the problems of the product you're buying, buy it, and end up getting screwed somewhere along the line somehow like maybe steering wheel patah, rims hancur tiada sebab or anak terbang keluar tingkap belakang ke ape pe lah.
Or post these stuff on forums telling the other owners of that car you wanted to buy that you having second thoughts, 3rd thoughts, fourth thoughts, or you won't buy it anymore. Then you go off and buy another car, and few weeks/months down the road you cry to your wife 'WHY DIDN'T I BUY THE OTHER CAR NOW I DRIVING THIS P.O.S!!!??!".
Oh and by the way, why are people even revving their cars during cold starts? SLAMATMALAMTRMKASIH.

so far i am driving my pug,no such thing when start the engine in the morning...in fact, everything is fine ( touch wood 3x ) soooo far after two years........
the only unsolved "misteri nusantara" so far is the coffee smell while accelerating, which happens once in a while...you guys on the forum made fun of my problem last time, telling me that the french fella's might have added Starbucks along with engine oil into the engine while manufacturing my pug

i noticed that the air con is cut off whenever I do hard acceleration, so you might have been driving past a kopi tiam and the whiff of coffee trailed in the air con duct
