Leaf Spring Convert to Coil Spring

conversion to coil spring done.

working ok.

only thing is i also change the absorber for the rear pair. is a bit long.

good driving comfort.

the coil spring come together with axle--> is a set

not expensive.

any chance to view your conversion.......I have seen a semi conversion on
leaf spring by adding coil on top the leaf spring and removing some of the
leafs.....I wounder anyone done such mod...and what is the effect
like?....this mod would be quicker and cheaper than doing the full
conversion......

I might try on LR series....maybe a series 3 88......my fren just acquire a
series 3 88 pick-up...looks damn cute.....excellent for a daily runner too....

Ya. According to one of my friend who involve in 4WD business, some add on
coil, without taking out the leaf spring.

He said is too complicated, and later hard to rectify when problems arise.

How much they quote you for full conversion? the set of axle and coil, of
course, recond/used one.

My mechanic regretted to do for me. hard work and hard job. And I pay
happily.

Fraction of amount.....Mine is a Pajero.

You fren mention too complicated for entire coil conversion or just adding
coil only?.....

There is an aussie fellow doing this add a coil thing....very simply
design.....I haven't done any coil conversion yet....but will likely to
follow the aussie design...very quick and simple.....if I do get a LR
series.....but unlikely because the gearbox is difficult to enggage
compared to 110...unless I change out the gearbox...but then better just
get a 110...hehhe....

my mechanic done before many customisation....so, the job would be easy for
him.....but have check how much it would cost....he will be doing some
customising for my 110 pick-up....currently now in his workshop for
repair.....putting a customised 2" lift....roll cage, roof rack...etc....

Entire/complete is easier. As the things come in a set

Of course, add on takes shorter time. But is difficult to rectify problems
in future, if anything arise

Depends on the truck and for what purpose?

Leaf springs can perform just as wel as coils if setup properly offroading.

I will be getting my "first" pick up truck this end Feb. Toyota Hilux.
Is not for commercial used nor hardcore offroader more like for family outing hence i bought the toyota instead cos it had the biggest cabin in it class.
Thot the leaf spring is a little bumby cos i don't carry heavy stuff so thot of finding way to improve the ride comfort.

Some people say...bilstein absorber will do the jobs. my priority is still comfort.
what your take on that?.

In my 2 cent worth opinion, the crux of the problem is that the leaf spring was speced from the factory to carry loads. Hence why it's stiffly sprunged from the factory. I believe if the car is fully loaded with 4 passengers and all the camping gear it won't be so bouncy. For me the ride is ok on the stock Hilux, however the car in under damped as in the shock absorbers are soft.

For the price of the Bilstiens i would rather run a set of Amada's top of the range dampers - Amada Xtreme Explorer II shocks. Reason being it's big (more volume, better cooling), run's an external reservior, inverted monotube, and rebuildable by the right people.

However if you complain is that the ride is not bouncy but hard and stiff, they the springs is not suitable for your needs and you might need to change to a softer set of leafsprings, pull out a leave from the original leaf spring, or change cars.

Caveat emptor applies here.
