i think alloil company is the same quality, the most important is how often you change your diesel fuel filter.

Sorry, don't agree with you on this.
There's different in diesel by company.
Additives and purity is quite significant.
If your read the SUV/4X4 forums you will notice certain brand gives a slight edge over other and vise versa.
The fuel filter need to change on shorter interval as per manufacturer's recommendation.
I believe Petronas and Shell or even Caltex gives different results to fuel combustion, mileage, sledge etc.

you may be correct technically but I doubt if it is a measurable difference over the life of the engine.

agreed, not easy to measure. Most of the contributors would go by percentage but then again it is subjective when put all elements together.
2 things that I notice reading thru the forums are :-
1. Amount of smoke.
2. The fuel filter condition.

Had change my fuel filter yesterday at 15K Mileage, doesn't look pleasant at all.
Just my opinion and seeing is believing.
Rgds.

I think it would be Caltex with Techron now.

Think so too. But recently refuel with Techron-D still give some smoke during start and acceleration. Not sure whether due to remaining old Petronas fuel mix at the bottom of fuel tank. Need to refuel few round and monitor difference. Caltex & Petronas give similar smoothness but Petronas seems emitting more smoke. Believe some kiosks still clearing out old stock.

Recently, i refuel back my beloved Caltex after a tank of Shell. It make my smile with the respond and engine smoothness. If i rate the best Diesel here, i will rate Caltex then only Petronas. The only drawback is it can spew black smoke when push hard. I think Shell produce less black smoke or maybe none when push hard but my engine feel a bit sluggish and noisy.
