Yes, it is true. As per Toyota website, 1.6, 1.8 & 2.0 variance all come with dual VVT-I engine but only 1.8 & 2.0 mated with super CVT gearbox with lowest gear ratio of 0.411.
Finally seeing UMW doing the right thing for the first time, i.e introduce the local model that hv same spec with oversea models. Good for new and potential Altis buyer but again it is a bit sad for the existing Altis owners. Paying the the same amount of money but not able to enjoy the benefit of the latest technologies which already available before lauching of this Altis abt 2 years ago.
Why "sad"? The new suggested pricing for 1.8E is RM112,990 which is RM3000 more. Some owners prefer paying a lower price for less features, while others prefer paying more to get newer technology, including fuel-saving if possible. So I think it's not necessary "sad" but depends on each individual. We should look at this in a positive way, i.e. technology moving forward and hopefully, car prices going down for all Malaysians as efficiency improves.
For me, one of my key consideration when buying the 1.8E previously was the lower pricing at RM109,990 and also when compared against Civic & Sylphy (although some people will argue is not comparable).
