I have bought two unit of Ssang Yong Rexton 270 xdi from Competetive
Supreme on December 2004 (WMK 4994 & WMK 6007). Since than, we facing
allots of problem on one of these car which is WMK 4994. The problem
started since the first week we bought this car.

This is some of the difficulties that we face:
1) The “CHECK ENGINE” indicator is on although we have just used the
car for one week. It keep’s on repeating until the six month we bought the
car. The answer that we get from Ssang yong Service centre in Malaysia is
that they ask us to send the car to their service canter so that they can
switch off the check engine indicator.
2) The “DIESEL FILTER” indicator is on and making a long “bib” noise.
This follows by under power problem which is a drop on the car power from
120 km/h to 20km/h. These happened after we used the car for three week.
3) The “BRAKE PAD” falls down from its holder. This happened after
the first service. The Ssang Yong service centre blames us for not
replacing the brake pad for every 5,000km. We don’t think this is a good
reasons and these incident have caused me to involve in an accident.
Luckily, it was not so bad.
4) The Air conditioner “REGULATOR” leakage, these happened after four
month of used. The Ssang Yong Service Centre blames us for misused.
5) After six month of used, the car engine makes a loud noise and
followed by the check engine indicator is "on". When we ask a local
mechanic (Ex-Ssang Yong Service staff) he told us that the engine oil is
already empty. This because the engine oil came out from the exhaust pipe.
The Ssang Yong Service Center blames us for not sending the car to their
service centre immediately but when this incident happened we immediately
call the Ssang Yong Srevice Centre to "tow" the car to their workshop.
6) On the seven month, the car involve in an accident. These happened
when our people try to change the gear from gear 5 to gear 4 by using
the “STRIPTRONIC”, suddenly the car loose control and knock a concrete
road divider. Luckily there’s no major injury.
We feels very unhappy because the way Ssang Yong distributor in Malaysia
treat us in not professional and put all the blame on us.
We have sent several letters to the distributor in Malaysia which is
COMPETITIVE SUPREME SDN. BHD but the answer that we get is not reasonable
and the last answer that we receive is that:

Your dissatisfaction is mainly as a result of your disregard to the proper
operating procedures and not due to any defect in the said vehicle as the
same was delivered to you in showroom condition and free of any defects.
Please refer to page 2-15 of the starting and operating in the Ssang Yong
Rexton owner's manual.

Is this a reasonable answer? I would like all off you out there that have
faced the same problems as me to write and expressed all the problems that
you faced in the Media or News. So that these could teach them a lessons.

Thanks,

Best regards,
AZMAN ADAM

Dear Guys,

I'm a sorento owner by the way, thank god i do not have any of those
disturbing problems with my truck.Maintain my Sorento at Korean Car
Specialist ( KIA authorised Service Center ), managed by 2 koreans and so
far their service is very good, price is abit on the high side but most
important thing they get the job done and they maintain my baby very well.

Gota a chance to go to korea last few weeks, amazed to see the number of
Sorento and Tuscon on their road but very hard to see a rexton, according
to the tour guide, in term of realibility & durability, tuscon and
Sorento are the best if compared to Rexton, in conclusion Sorento &
Tuscon are the most pupular SUV in Korea.

If i were you, just dump the Rexton or trade in for Sorento or Tuscon,
great car with almost no problem, till to date, i've done almost 40,000km
on both normal road and Kampung road & My sorento still runs wild.

Thank God I purchased a Kia Sorento

Rgds

Dear Friend,

Yes, its under warranty. But it almost cost my life. I'm scare of using it
but i dont have any choice. If i sell the car i will lost atleast RM40k.
The Ssang Yong dealer keep on blaming me and try to avoid from accepting
the fact that the car is dented. This because, the other one that we have
(WMK 6007) does not have any problem like these one. Anyway, i have to
wait for 3-4 month for the car to be repair. Do u have any idea on how to
solve this problem.

Thanks,

azman adam

I just bought an used Year 06 Rexton 270XDI High Spec. I went thru your situation few weeks back. The main reasons I chosen Rexton was because of its features for price of a 7 seater.

Couple of pointers for your consideration

1. Test drive one your self. You could read lots of positive and also negative postings on the internet but nothing beat experiencing the drive first hand on driver seat.

2. Check out the availability of service center or workshop familiar with Rexton or Mercedes. Ask for the service fees and routine maintenance part cost. Of course it is expected to be higher than sedan but the service center near me quoted the price quite reasonable.

3. Resale Value and Brand recognition. A new Rexton II is selling at RM175k now and you could get less than half of that price for a used 2004~2005 Rexton. Serious depreciation for new car owner but quite good value if you looking for used one. You hardly find that much features, comfort and luxury at that price range.

Share more on your priorities and thoughts to allow others to provide more advice.
