Darreltian,
.

.
In this photo, the engine looks like a V6... I think the car has got a V6 engine attached to it...

One of my friend bought a PV6 during 2005 till now after 5 years mileage clock 110000KMs , he don't face any GB problem, the condition is to install ATF cooler and then change the ATF every 20,000KM.....experience from him laa....just 2 cents....

Which car on earth need to change ATF every 20,000km? Ever wonder why proton never export their flagship? smile_blush.gif

Sharing info...
I sold my 2001/2002 PV6 because...
1) It's aging
2) Maintenance cost (genuine parts are expensive, cheap local parts don't last long)
3) Already do 200,000km mileage (did 1 top overhaul, 2 timing-belt change, suspension, radiator, air-con, etc.)
4) Gearbox problems (gear change slip on up-shifting, jerky on downshift - I do manual and regular maintenance periodically and keep records till the end)
5) Service at Proton (expensive, but the car is in good lasting conditions)
6) Safety wise..., "no airbags", traction control, etc.
7) A bit heavy on FC (Fuel Consumption) as it ages
.
.
Other than that,
1) It's a good car, luxurious, comfortable, smooth drive car (KL - Ipoh - KL (on the same day), and still can attend meeting elsewhere in KL)...
2) A driver's car, good and stable at corners
3) Till today, everything in the car works as when newly purchased, but on someone's else hands now. Good luck to the new owner...

I now drive a Hyundai...
I wrote a personal review about it here

I sold my 2001/2002 PV6 because...
1) It's aging (mine is even older than yours but well, it's my choice to keep the car isnt't it?)
2) Maintenance cost (genuine parts are expensive, cheap local parts don't last long) (Parts are on the high side but certain items can be sourced from kedai potong eg the driver door locking mechanism died on me 3 years ago. I got a used set still inside a potong door kept under a shed for RM80. Got the power window buttons woth door handle and DOOR LOCK button for RM50 only)
3) Already do 200,000km mileage (did 1 top overhaul, 2 timing-belt change, suspension, radiator, air-con, etc.) (I've done two full timing belt changes, 1 top overhaul and changed the front absorbers twice and once for the rear. Mileage is now 223,300. The top overhaul really took care of the asthmatic feel as mileage got closer to 180K kms)
4) Gearbox problems (gear change slip on up-shifting, jerky on downshift - I do manual and regular maintenance periodically and keep records till the end) (I don't have any GB problems yet. Always changed the ATF at 20K interval. Gear changes are still reasonably smooth for the mileage done)
5) Service at Proton (expensive, but the car is in good lasting conditions) (I never bothered to service at Proton after the warranty expired. My regular mechs can do a similar good job when they have a MUT Tester handy)
6) Safety wise..., "no airbags", traction control, etc. (agree, but this is early 90s technology. Potong Eterna units have at least one airbag but Proton chose not to have it on PV6)
7) A bit heavy on FC (Fuel Consumption) as it ages (not really.. i've been getting more or less the same mileage till now. Used to have problems running Petronas RON95 but solved when I changed brand to ESSO RON95)

When one know how to look after it then it will reward the owner right?

Same goes to the Waja 1.8.
Most will stay away from it as they are influenced by others word that this car is problematic.
If it is problematic then why there is still one at my house already 7 years old and no major problem?
A Diamond water filter guy even offer my dad RM20k cash for it but my dad reject the offer.
Its paid for and like Mean said "it surely beats having an installment to pay every month"

Some people simply kutuk kutuk without having even sat in the car (heard others' comments). Some other pulak, do not want to get their hands dirty and discover how to make things better.

A friend of mine related the story of how his bro bought a used Perdana and promptly sold it off coz the maintenance was killing him. He had nothing kind to say about the car and I merely blasted him off by saying "your bro was not meant to be able to afford the car in the first place". How wicked of me. smile_evil.gif

Ha ha ha... I wonder how long the car instalment-less life will be coz I do dream of getting a new Mazda 5 or 6 every day. Hehehe
