Questions On Machines For Detailing

I went through MOL and ended up more confused than ever. Hope someone here can help explain.
I now know the difference between ROB, RB.
Now I see terms of DA, PC, Porter, G220, G110.
I do know (I think) that:
DA = dual action polisher. thus is like ROB?
PC = Porter cable = the forefather of G110,G220.
G110 = 110v, G220 = 220/240v. but what this machine does, I dont know.
I just want it explained as in the similarity to what I know. Easier to understand that way. Is DA,PC is similar to ROB or RB?
I do remember someone mentioning that it is expensive. Around RM600/800 or more than RM1K. I think.

Choosing a machine polisher
Have a nice read...and it's a long one.

Very very useful.
BTW, would you know how much is the Meguiars G220 in Malaysia then? Something similar to it would be the Porter Cable but then would that be in our 240 volt as well? If so, how much do you think that would be?
I think instead of ROB, might as well make the plunge to this DA.
Thanks again.

The PC or Porter Cable is around SG$350, but as far as I know it only comes in 120VAC so you'll need to get a transformer as well to run it.
If you're really serious and have that much money to invest, a machine worth spending on, IMHO, would be the Flex XC 3401 VRG. Price would be around the G220 but with better cutting and polishing abilities. Or, another option (which I think is even better), would be getting a rotary (Makita, Hitachi or the like) AND the Bosch ROB.
And here's another thing to ponder, I don't think there's one machine that is better than another. Each machine has it's own strong points and weak points. Get to know what each machine is SPECIFICALLY intended for and find something that better suite your preference and expectations (there that word again).
For example, owning G220 or a DA/PC is good if you're planning to do a regular maintenance polishing (light polishing) without heavy compounding or cutting, but it's quite difficult to achieve (not to mention time consuming) what a rotary can do in term of results. Then again, if you have a good maintenance regime, you'd only need to do heavy polishing with a rotary around once a year, or maybe less, hence, it doesn't really make any reasonable sense to invest on a rotary (unless you're an OCD sufferer like me) if you'd only need it, say, once a year.
That's why, logically, the Flex comes into the equation as it's performance is 'in-between' a rotary and a DA/PC. It could do quite a bit of cutting AND also good in maintenance polishing.
But I'd have to admit that I've no regrets getting the Makita, just because I couldn't get the ROB to finish to my expectations.
My 2 sen worth and I hope it helps.
Regards.

Meguiars G220 in Malaysia =RM1600 = 2 pcs of MAKITA = 4.5 PCS OF BOCSH ROB = 3 PCS OF HITACHI RB

dschia,
tt price = that price
or
tt price = yamcha tt session price?

but whichever, it IS hell of a whole lot more than what I thought it would be. thanks to the bros here for putting it into perspective. as in how many RB/ROB you can get for the price of one G220.
actually dont have much money to invest, but thinking since gonna possibly spend for ROB, thinking of what else options/choices are there. other than the rotary.

Yeap. Crazy is normal in Boleh Land. Oh....did I mention that it's still stuck in the SIRIM testing facility awaiting approval for retail.

PC 7242 (v110 requires transformer) is the next level where it has higher opm and able to achieve decent paint correction when more time and effort is put in, it is also a good tool to apply wax.
Meg G110/220 is known to be more powerful than PC 7242 but it still requires time and effort for some paint correction. You can actually switch on the machine and use one hand to press hard and stop the machine from ocsillating which is one of the reason why is it not as easy to burn through paint than the rotary as it is pressure sensitive.
PC 7242 XP is a improve and more powerful version than PC 7242 but i am not sure how it fair against meg g110/220 in terms of power.
Flex 3403/ Makita b06040 is similar to PC, Meg g110/220, BUT it has force rotation mode which also means you can do faster correction...
As for rotary, even spinning at the lowest speed, you won't want your hand to go near it as it is force driven and won't stop let alone buffing at 1500-2000 rpm so you can have a gauge how different in terms of power compared to the rest.

G220 in SG is abt 300 plus range. As everybody desire and working method is unique, you will nv get a standard answer for what to get. For my case since as of now detailing is my rice bowl, i really die die can't do without a rotary, it is the most accessible and cheapest compared to machines like Meg 220, makita bo6040, flex 3403 anyway.
