fadli15,

which sifu Andrew are u referring to? me?? if yes, then this is the 1st time in my life, someone is addressing me as "SIFU" ....hahahaha

recently i just found out that by installing a "desulfator" on our S40 2.4i, will really make our car come live again. if u trust me, just buy one n try, RM100 plus. (i am not the dealer or sole agent for this product)

Hi Andrew,

What's the desulfator all about? mind to elaborate more..

By the way, i have called up FA Seputeh to check on the S40 my wife is buying recently and the serive dept lady is very helpful by providing all the particulars on the service record to me and i'm very satisfied.

However, i dont think she'll send it to FA or SM for servicing coz it's costly. A fren of mine has been sending all the volvos for years (his family and company car majority are volvo) to an authorised volvo service centre in Taman Tun if i'm not mistaken, will check with him after getting the car.

Anyone sending to these Volvo service centre besides FA and SM? Is is good?

There is not other authorized Volvo workshop's beside SM ( Sungai Besi) FA (adjacent Midvalley, Jan 222 pj, Shah Alam, JB, Penang ? ) the workshop at Tmn Tun are only so call independence Volvo specialist..if you are refer to V auto...and there use to be another Volvo specialist call Premium Auto House that adjacent to Esso or Mobil...but had been closed shop already...

most Volvo Owner's ( mostly individual owners ) will prefer to send their car for service to those so call Volvo specialist after the warranty are expire, and to know which workshop's that are good on which models of Volvo ( as Volvo had long history of different mechanical design so each of every workshop will normally expertise to certain models only ) you can log in to below wedsite and find the workshops information in "members service"...

Desulfator is a device which generates an electrical pulse that shatters and removes lead sulfate crystals maximizing car battery life-span and performance. Just install to your battery terminal like those Voltage Stabilizer.

Regarding the workshop you mentioned above, you can try to find out more detail in www.vocm.com.my

Hi,

After some hiccups, finally getting a 04/05 S40 2.4 for my wife. We actually agreed on buying a 2004 S40 but the seller back off last minute as he claimed to have repaired the car for 6K and agreed to sell only if the bill is borne by us. We disagreed. Then we got our eyes on a physically beautiful 04/05 black S40. With mileage at only 69K km and verification by FA we decided it was a good buy. However, the last service cost the previous owner RM6K gave us cold sweat on the maintenance cost...Then the unethical car dealer sold the car to another buyer even though we have paid the deposit. ( I think for better price) So with the approved loan in hand, we decided to give it a last shot.. We found another 04/05 S40 and we decided to buy it as the cheaper price justifies the higher mileage. However, there are some advice needed..appreciate if you guys can help..Thanks..

1) The car clocked 119K km..out of warranty.. i'm thinking of servicing it at volvo specialist rather than FA or SM coz it's cheaper. But the question is the gearbox was recently replaced due to faulty at 104k KM( verified by FA) and has 1 year warranty. Should i take the risk as not servicing in FA would def void the warranty? Since it's a brand new imported gearbox which cost RM32k smile_shock.gif i believe it'll not die off within a year therefore i'm thinking of taking the risk..But what i'm worried is possibility of damage done resulting from workmanship during replacement which leads to faulty gearbox during this 1 year period then i'm really looking for trouble..Plz advice..

2) The timing belt and battery were replaced at ard 114k km.. when is the expected next change?

3) How does the service reminder work? Does it remind owners at every 20k,40k,60k and so on? ( I dont think this justifies coz owners might send for early service then it'll defeat the purpose) Or everytime when we send for service..The SC will set it to remind owners at the next 20k. Or perhaps the car could response to the viscosity of the engine oil or other stuff which will automatically lights up the reminder..i dont think it could be so advanced smile_tongue.gif Plz advice..

4) I'm sending it for a respray to change the colour totally. Not gonna detach anything even the door panel coz i'm afraid the car is abit sensitive and i dont want any unnecessarily damages. But any word of cautious?

Really appreciate if you guys can provide some advice..Thanks in advance..

1) maintain at FA/SM since gearbox is warranted and if u are low mileage user, don't think u will service more than twice a year

4) if u respary diff color, then u have to paint inside out. it will look awfull when u open the bonnet or door and see a diff color. and spraying inside out means dismantling those plastic panel.

Hi Jonas & all,

I'm also in the market for 04 S40. Don't mind sharing how much you paid for the
high mileage 04/05 model?
Am going to see a Dec 04, 78kkm model next week
with a asking price of RM93k. Intend to request owner to send to SM for 21 pt. check
and also Puspakom. If everything ok will try to knock down to below RM90k.
What do you guys think?

Hi,

Mine is registered in July 2005, meaning that it was on the road for 4 yrs. Despite the higher mileage, the exterior and interior are excellent, in a very good shape..Looks like a 1-2 yrs car..I didnt send it for the 21 point check coz i called FA few times to check on all the service records. Furthermore, the car was recomended by FA salesman.

It was up for a firm grab at ard 91-92k (the initial asking price was higher) but we managed to neg below 90k considering the unusual colour and higher mileage which we used it as a tool to negotiate considering the repainting cost. We almost send it for repainting until my wife actually slowly falls in love with the colour after awhile and decided to maintain as it is for time being.

Despite the higher mileage, it has it's pros coz the timing belt, battery and tiny little things were replaced. And dont forget a brand new gearbox too...Just sent it for servicing last week and so far everything ok with it (touch wood) except for brake pads which are getting thinner and due for replacement in few months time..

But i notice prices for used S40 2.4i are slightly up recently and supply is getting lesser. If you could get the deal ard 90k then it should be a good buy. (provided the condition is good or atleast acceptable). This is definately a superb car and with it's current used price tag, cant find any better deal than it. But of course, it requires alittle bit of luck as the maintenance will cost a bomb. Good luck!!

Jonas,

Tks. for ur feed-back.
Overall this Safari Green 04 car is okay but the leather seats looked " seasoned "
with 78k mileage. Enquired at SM regarding timimg belt change and 80kkm service cost > 3k......
costs a bomb! Anyway offered owner rm85k and awaiting reply.....What do you think?

Hi,

I think timing belt need to be changed only at 100k km. mileage 78k km, not bad. But do check the gearboz whether any fault. If rm85k def a good buy..i dont think he'll let go at that price coz the colour, mileage def can fetch 90k if it's direct buyer. Of course the seller would fetch less than rm85k if he sells to car dealer..depends on yr luck and nego skill...good luck..

btw, since it's after warranty period..i advice you to send to volvo specialist workshop rather than sm or fa. Price very much different and they wont force u to change this and that..mine i'm sending to my frens recomended workshop, they specialize in volvo..i think vocm members recomended too..if everyone sends to fa or sm, i dont think you'll see many volvos on the road..price beh tahan..
