When you unplug your laptop battery, do the time and date change after that? If not, then there's a Cmos battery supporting your Bios.
I dun believe there's any laptop in this world do not need a Bios.
Ram me if you can!

QUOTE
The BIOS is boot firmware, designed to be the first code run by a PC when powered on. The initial function of the BIOS is to identify, test, and initialize system devices such as the video display card, hard disk, and floppy disk and other hardware. This is to prepare the machine into a known state, so that software stored on compatible media can be loaded, executed, and given control of the PC.[3] This process is known as booting, or booting up, which is short for bootstrapping.
BIOS programs are stored on a chip and are built to work with various devices that make up the complementary chipset of the system. They provide a small library of basic input/output functions that can be called to operate and control the peripherals such as the keyboard, text display functions and so forth. In the IBM PC and AT, certain peripheral cards such as hard-drive controllers and video display adapters carried their own BIOS extension ROM, which provided additional functionality. Operating systems and executive software, designed to supersede this basic firmware functionality, will provide replacement software interfaces to applications.

Finally, the PDRM has admited the existence of such a device. When Professional Firms first started using laptops, many of them who after going to mamak / shopping was shocked to see that their car has been broken into. After many cases, the rumour of a laptop detector began to surface but was denied by the PDRM then. They claim that the job is inside job, or ppl observing cars leaving such offices.
The urban legend about how the laptop device works, it picks signals from the laptop batterys. If you want to leave your laptop in the car (cos not convenient to bring the whole laptop - like going to cinema), take out the battery and carry it with you. None of ppl I know who did this had their laptops stolen before.
But don't quote me - its just a legend that I heard 10 years ago...

Sorry have to quote you. You are right about the legend that you heard 10 years ago. But now the gadgets are more sophisticated than that time, even you remove the laptop battery they will still know, maybe if you remove the cmos battery might work, but that involves a lot of hassle.

remove the laptop from the car and carry it you safe all the hassle....... a bit heavy to carry but better than having a lighter wallet to get replacement.........
