hi, my car is going to 15 years this July, it has covered 257k km.

it's leaking oil at the head gasket, hence need top up oil about 1-2 litres in between every oil change

it's not blowing oil ... yet! and there are some parts worn...

sad but... need to decide and take action: top overhaul, complete overhaul, engine change... another car??

sigh...

Since there is no white smoke and you have traced the oil disappearance from the leaking gasket, you could get away with just a top overhaul. Which should include new gasket, a valve clean-up and check the clearances.

You could wait for 320,000km for the full overhaul, which should include a complete rebuild and change of all water hoses and maybe new pistons. You could even push it up to 2.2 16V while keeping the old block.

Another car? Well how much would you get for your ZX and what car could you buy for that money? A downpayment on a MyVi? err Everyone I know who sold their ZX has regretted it.

Sometimes hardened or worn valves seal can also caused the loss of
engine oil. Zx engines are quite hardy and a top overhaul is usually
thats what is needed.
My 17 yr old zx was also drinking engine oil like mad @250k mileage.
Now as good as new after a top overhaul.

haha... that's right, there's still life in it. i definitely want to get it done because i plan to use for at least another 2-3 years

at the moment, i'm thinking of looking for a suitable place in penang to do engine wash. i wish to see for myself where the leak is

i went to another mech today at lunch time, this guy said he wants to change all the oil seals and gaskets, he probably will look at the clutch as well

from the looks of things... money needs to go out, o ya... btw... might as well fix my radiator leak as well

Bro,
Economy no good... Better save for rainy days... Penang is badly hit... change car would be the last choice (my opinion) based on current situation.
Now cash is king... rolleyes.gif

Just go for top overhaul ... it should last you couples of years on the road thereafter...

By the way, Happy Chinese New Year + Enjoy your holidays!!!
