Hi good people!

My Suzuki Swift stock tyres (185/60/15) is almost reaching the 'TWI' zone and I'm planning to change them to this size: 195/60/15....has anyone tried them before? Is it any better compared to the stock ones in terms of comfort, noise, fuel efficiency....ummm that's all I think for now...!

Any help, good people, is highly appreciated!!

Thanks

I have 3 sets of wheels currently:195/60R15, 205/50/R16 and 195/55R15. I prefer the 205/50R16 for its better handling but sometimes I swap to 195/60R15 for comfort. My 195/55R15 is not bad also for comfort but I seldom it now.
In term of comfort I found my friend's original 185/60R15 is slightly better and also not so noisy. FC I didn't take notice of it so can't say.
However, you must know there are many factors that affects the ride comfort, noise and FC. For 1 all my 3sets of wheels are filled with air while my friend's ones are filled with nitrogen and lower pressure than mine. my tires are all hard sidewall with rough tread for wet weather while my friend's ones are soft sidewall and design for general use. I noticed that my 195/60R15 bounce a lot, I have to reduce the pressure to 2.1/2.0 (front/rear) to reduce the bounce; recommended pressure are 2.3/2.1
I might try out nitrogen later to see if it make any difference or not.

Cheers

Yup, next time need to look for Suzuki tyre consultant, look for lasting999 lah!!! smile_wink.gif

Overall diameter of 195/60/15 (615mm) is only 2% bigger than the 185/60/15 (603mm), so it should ok.
I haven't had the chance to check the original rim size width, is it wide enough for 195?

SS stock rim diameter is 5.5J...with 195 you can see the rubber bulging out
I changed to PS3 185/55/15 and immediately I noticed drop in bounciness and can attack corner at higher speed without sacrificing FC

Yes sirree, I totally agree with you NohadT5 !!

darreltian, you're giving 2nd thoughts, dude! unsure.gif

The reason why I'm going for 195 is that the 185 seems a bit "skinny"....since you mentioned that there's some "bulging" if using the 195, is it obvious?

the choice is yours in the end.... i am just sharing...there are many factors to consider and a tyre 'sifu' told me 195 will not perform best with 5.5J rim unless u change to aftermarket 6J....SS stock suspension is tuned too much to comfort hence, you get noticeable body roll and tend to be bouncy when going over speed bumps....by reducing tyre profile to 55 these problems were significantly reduced....to me i call it a perfect match as i save a little on $$ and improved ride....195 has bigger contact area and hence does affect FC, tyre noise and car pick-up

are you saying 55 series is skinny?....... 195/55/R15 is far from creating harsh or bumpy ride.... forte is using 45 as their stock ride!

Thanks for the feedback, darreltian!

What I meant about "skinny" is the stock tyres size 185/60/15....I think I left that out, sorry!

By the way replacing the wheel size would greatly affect handling right? Including the fuel usage depending on the size of he tires and wheels bolted on the vehicle? What would be the ideal size range of the tyres that would greatly benefit the vehicle.

Yes ofcoz. On RON95 petrol, my original 185/60R15 gets me average of 12.55 km/l. My other set of wheel 205/45/R16 only got me average of 11.25km/l and the ride is quite stiff/hard - not comfy; but handling is really good. If you want comfy softer ride and fuel economy, stick with the originals' - just don't do hard cornering with it. Also the tire pressure for swift is quite different from other car; the front pressure should be 230 kpa and the rear 210 kpa measured at cold! That mean pump the tires in the evening to 250 kpa and leave it over night and adjust it in early morning (before sunrise) to stated recommended pressure.
For low profile tires the pressure is higher a bit, like my 205/45/R16, the front is 235 kpa and rear is still 210 kpa.

cheers,
