Ive been around Malaysia and have seen many Kombis in bad shape. Im a Beetle owner looking to complete my collection with a family van. Interested in buying a original kombi between 10 000-15 000 without any restoration or higher for a keeper. My beetle is first hand so I know how the the vw should feel. Im waiting for the right one and hope someone will let me have a good car for keeps. Please conatact me should you have any leads. Tks

Tks for info. I was away for a while. Have found a few on mudah. SOme were in bad shape. Hoping to find one that is in use and running instead of the usual abandoned vehicle left to rot. Please contact me if any news.

Just a suggestion, other than Mudah, you might want to check with workshops that deals with maintenance and restoration of classic cars. I work in Ara Damansara and behind my office is one of such workshop. Seen a few Combis that looks good there ... perhaps some owners might be persuaded to sell?

Hi Kenso,

Good idea. I believe there are some good sellers looking for a good home for their Kombi. Most of the Kombi's coming to the workshops in Penang are upgrading and maintenance work. Some I hear are for sale at indecent prices. Im willing to spend within the range of RM 15,000 - 20,000 on a basic original 1978 model. Rust free and has parts in tact preferably.

As my beetle was a hand me down by the first owner, my father, I really appreciate a seller who is looking for more than just a quick profit but a buyer that will keep the car in good shape and enjoy using it for many years to come. Looking forward to getting not just any Kombi in that sense but preferably one that comes from a good home and has many years of enjoyment to go.

Please let me know should you meet anyone like that. I will be more than happy to do the persuasion.

cheers,
Larren

I have a friend who keeps a Kombi, and he told me he did RM50k on it, crazy to me but logic to him so I just continue chatting how nice his Kombi to keep him happy continue talking and never ever ask if he wants to parts with it, if I ever did so - he will "no friend" me hahahaha. just like a few door away neighbour ask me if I wants to sell one of my very old old car which was always parked and not used at all, and I told him I wants to see it everyday when I wake up and it make me a day! and I told him I just did a repairs for more than 20K on it and will be doing another major upgrading soon, he keep quiet and never ask me if I wants to sell or not from then on.
