Focus Tdci Use Timing Belt Or Chain?

Hi Bro, not mine, just that saw in Taiwan forum TDCI did run more then 100K change the belting. smile_sleepy.gif

Bro,
U referring to changing the auxilliary belt ? Timing chain can last easily up to 180K km ? Cheers.

Yes bro, change the belting beside the timing chain, timing chain can consider life time, but is good to change at 180K. smile_sleepy.gif

I think a more relevant question to ask your SA is whether the TDCI engine is an interference design or not. If it is, then you must change your belt on time, earlier if possible. If it's a non-interference design, the only problem of a broken timing belt would just be the belt, so you can stretch out the service life of the belt with no worries except possibly paying to get your car towed to a workshop.
There are no lousy cars. Only better cars.

Bro scenic, no need to look so far back. Even up to 1997, Subaru Imprezas were running on non-interference designs. Usually, low compression turbocharged engines are non-interference, dunno about now.

I would think that being diesel, it should be an interference design as diesel engines typically have high compression, but then again, this is a turbodiesel, so I'm curious too smile.gif

from what i can see, it has a timing BELT. and there is a chain inside the cam cover which appears to connect the two camshafts together. it is the black belt on the outside that needs to be replaced at pre determined mileage, maybe 100k km.

can anyone tell us what is the chain on the inside?

this is the current TDCI 2.0 for Focd Focus, but if u think this is not the engine, maybe u can show us a picture of real TDCI engine?

hi bro, actually i do not know since it is shown with camcover open. assuming it is the TDCi engine, then we are now sure it uses a timing BELT and not chain as misinformed by some sales person. and i do not think the belt needs replacement at 60k km which is the end of the ESP. hence Focus owners have to bear the cost for replacing this belt which may be expensive smile_disapprove.gif
