Quoted from THE STAR:

"KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) collected a total of RM70.04mil from January to May this year for new vehicle number-plate registrations.

Deputy Transport Minister Jelaing Mersat told the Dewan Negara Wednesday that the amount was made for 351,092 transactions.

"Applicants who make a reservation of the vehicle number at the highest reserve price are offered that number.

"There is no limit to the reserve price that can be offered for a certain vehicle number," he told Datuk Sim Kheng Hui.

Sim had asked whether it was proper for the ministry to increase the tender price for car numbers everytime there was a bid for it.

Mersat said the vehicle registration number tender system carried out by JPJ was based on a reservation concept implemented by a committee called the Registration Number Management Committee.

"The JPJ doesn't increase the reserve prices of the numbers before the committee meets. This is to ensure that transparency exists in the number reservation and bidding system," he added.

Last year, RM137mil was collected and in 2008, RM141mil, he said."

How much is the standard registration fee for JPJ? I wonder how much do you get let say u multiply 351,092 by let say RM 300 which I assume to be the standard fee. Is it more than 70 mil? Plus I dont see JPJ using any of that 70 millions to better themselves. What a pity

what's the normal price for regular registration without buying any numbers?

Since the average is around RM 200 per transaction, where does all the money from number plate such as XX 1 or XX 88 go to? To their own pocket or what?
