hahahaha, yeah, i do, don't i? even my corolla is not so easy... an ae82 hatch is one of those rare corollas that anyone can get. btw, i'm beginning to see quite a few of the ae82 hatch running around and one finished almost exactly like mine... same panda paintwork, hella foglights, black rims etc. getting sort of a revival of the model i think. i gave up getting an original carb for my car though. can't seem to get a carb for the old 4A engine. i'll buy a carb from the 4AF instead for about rm1.25k. my mech said it can be modified slightly to fit. better oomph and consumption i was told.
anyway, i'm going see this one 180ks this weekend and hopefully the structure is sound. can't accept the 130y rear lights fitted to it now though and finding an original used set will be one of the challenges ahead.
anyway, i find the challenge exciting.

Datsun 180K, It reminds me of my old sweet memories .....
The car that I used to drive it when I had just pass my driving licence, ...... way back in 1985.

it is a good base car to do some rebuilding work. has the rear suspension from the famous datsun 240z. but these days, it is hard to find one that has not been modified in some way or another. i don't mind simple engine mods to keep the car a bit more updated (even my corolla has electronic ignition and power steering... simple stuff to keep the car current) but can't accept changes to the lights (from original to another car model) etc. i do like it to stay original where looks matters. sadly, a car like this was overshadowed even when it was new here and in those days, the early 80's, the skyline name meant nothing to malaysians.

starting from my dad p510 to his 160j sss...
but until now i couldn't find 240rs in malaysia...(only 1 i believe still running in mint condition on the hand of classic car owner)...
datsun models was very tough and a good base car for restoration project since sourcing the parts not as hard as continental car...
but to find a good condition chasis is really hard task...most of it was left to rust.....even my dad 160j having a hard time to restored since the floorpan already wrecked by rust....
-unless if u willing to spend on rebuilding a new chasis from sheet metal, then it shouldn't be a problem to restore rare datsun models....
goodluck for u..

Hi Lowpro,
Yes, I do agree that it can be hard to find a good 180K these days, esp the unmolested, stock std unit.
Happy hunting !.

Hahaha, I may give up the search for now... was thinking... my AE82 project is not completed yet so, I may just for the time being concentrate on building back the AE. Maybe towards the end of the year I'll consider another project car. This time I'm not only thinking of the 180K but another tough car as well! (as Gunner puts it). The Subaru 1.6/1.8. I saw a red coupe just last weekend at a makan shop near my house... problem was, I spent half an hour at the makan shop waiting for the owner to show up and he did not turn up at all! Wanted to ask him about the car and whether or not he wanted to sell it.

OIC.
Nvm, just complete your AE82 project soonest & then can move on to other cars.
Why would you choose a Subaru ?. Care to share ?
Personally, I'm falling in love with an Alfa Romeo 146, c/with Boxer engine. Still contemplating either I should get 1.
Price is quite reasonable these days; only things which make me worry are the cost + availability of the spare-parts, skills of mechanics familiar with this baby, & reliability issue.
Cheers.
