Hi...
I heard ppl saying that 205/45/17 tyre protects the rim as compared to 205/40/17. What is the logic behind? Is it because it is thicker profile? The foreman said the 45 wraps the rim... any sifu can explain?
TQ

In what way, protect the rims??
If you are referring to pot hole damage, then with 45 series which have a higher sidewall have a slight advantage.
If referring to rims edge, then depends on the tyre used. Some tyres have a thicker/larger rim protector bead to protect the rim edge.

Go with the 45 series. It goes through potholes MUCH better than 40 series

That is if it fits. Maybe with 45 series it is over sized??
For example Myvi plus 3 factor uses 205/40/R17.
205/45/R17 over 5% larger......
