I thought the Cressida evolve to be Camry? Some earlier Cressida model mid 80's were also named as camry in Australia.

no my friend. Cressida evolved along with Mark II but the model stopped in 92/93. Mark II carried on to be Mark X today.

Camry was a stand alone model from 1980, a slightly bigger one than Corona/Carina. model code was SV10 until the fourth generation when Camry was made bigger to compete with Honda Accord, so the SV40 became SXV10.

camrys in the undited states always differ to the ones sold in other countries. to their likings, Americans could afford cheap gas (or petrol) and therefore would want to enjoy big size family sedan with big capacity engines.

Camry has been the best selling Japanese sedan since 10 years ago in USA. They even have a stand alone Camry coupe, known as Camry Solara and available either as a hardtop or soft-top.

the flagship camry in US have a 3.5 litre engine similar to the Harrier with a 6 speed manual transmission. check US toyota website at http://www.toyota.com

We all know Yaris (also called Echo or Vitz in other countries) is the smallest Toyota passenger car. Well in Malaysia at least. Earlier I had mentioned about the Toyota Aygo which is a smaller supermini than Yaris. However, Toyota also has come up with toyota iQ which is very small in terms of dimensions but has a comfortable cabin for 4 adults.

Hi alldisc,

Thanks for the pics and keep up the good work. Post pics for other brands as well. That'll save me much time browsing the net for car pics.

Toyota is a very dynamic company. They see one model no demand, they stop production. for example, why did they stopped production of Caldina and did not replace it with new one? cause basically demand is low.

same thing happened to the Cressida, Celica & MRS? market trends and demands keep changing according to time and one company has to continuosly adjust to be competitive.

Why did Honda suddenly got aggresive in the MPV segment in the mid 90s? cause they know there was high demand for people carrier since the succes of Toyota's Town Ace, Master Ace and Estima.

It is all about marketing strategy.

Just like Proton when the Tiara failed. They tried to improve with the Savvy but failed again. the Juara failed and Proton learnt quickly. They built up a super size MPV even though they dont have a matching powerplant to pull it.....
