Algae-derived biodiesel SOUNDS promising, at least! 
Jatropha oil (a
non-food oil) also possible, but donno about its cost of production.

current technology on bio-diesel competes directly with food product.
Worst still, all current bio diesel sources uses petrol based pesticide
and fertilizer....
