Hi felow S40 2.4i owners,
just to let u know that last month while installing my subwoofer option, SM
had change a modified version of aircond stuff (dunno what the real thing
called) to prevent from water leaking. Mine wasn't having problem but they
told me it was a precaution measure.
So, probably some of you might wanna check on this issue with ur SC since
there was some problem before with one of our friend.

yes, u're right, probably i'm just lucky enough before the water leaked
problem started on my car Smile

the subwoofer complete installation cost me roughly 5k, waited for 2 months
since SM had to order it, quite interesting experince since nobody has done
the installation before, at the end of the day, they had to get remote
installation from Sweden on the software part. In the mean time, i also
found out that the factory has locked the configuration by default, so
can't activate anything on the MOST system. So, i guess ipod integration on
MOST wont happen easily except using FM transmitter or modulator.

Manjohari,

has the sound system improved tremendously after you have installed the
subwoofer?

Seems like 5k is quite a lot of money for just a subwoofer.

I understand the s40 comes with the high performance system which is the
mid range system in the volvo family. the highest one is the premium
which comes in the XC90 T6.

I am new in the volvo forum. bought and collected my s40 in oct last year.

the sound system is pretty good for a stock standard but I am always on
the lookout ofr ways of improving it.

Hi Exca,

How long did it take to reapir it (water leaked to the carpets)?

My S40 rear right carpet also got wet after heavy rain. Suspect leaking!
FA Penang says need 2 to 3 days to check & resolve the problem!!

A little off topic here, but I too just got my s40 2.4i 2 weeks ago. Got a
mailer from Federal Auto that we can actually upgrade the existing High
Performance System to the Premium Sound (with Pro Logic). Cost stated was
about RM9k plus.

The technician I spoke to at SM also stated that there is a new 'software
update' for the S40. Not sure what he meant though. Just thought I would
post it here.

I'm very pleased with the quality of the sound with the added subwoofer.
The subwoofer takes away the bass load from the speakers which lead to more
clean and clear midrange sound.
The bass is not big enough if you're SP type of listener, I'm more to SQ.

Of course Premium Sound would be good, but i don't see a point of listening
to music with Pro Logic, unless watching DVD. For 9k+ I'd rather upgrade to
lowered sport spring and 17" rims (which is my next target after done with
my house renovation)

I have full list of S40 2.4i accessories with price, i even put a spoiler
too, if you come across black car with spoiler, it must have been me Smile

The software update like computer/hardware firmware/bios update. If you
haven't done if before please insist to get ur software updated, for me the
noticable different after upgrading the software was the gear change more
smooth at lower speed, no jerking as previously.

Thanks for the info Manjohari.

Yea, I will be sending in my car for the update tmrow, plus some checks on
the absorber/springs as the front squeaks a little when i go over bumps. I
am also puzzled as to why outside fumes can sometimes get into the car.
Other than that, I am mightily pleased with the car (except for the
impending loan payments)

I agree the Premium sound is unnecessary. Mine is black too, with the body
kit. Ha ha, same things in mind by year end. Sport springs + new rims.

Hope the software update cures the sudden jerking I get at times, when I
slow down and accelerate again. The gearbox seems confused, esp between 2nd
and 3rd gear.

9k to upgrade to Premium is prohibitive. You can get a brand new system
for 9k.

Manjohari, the spolier looks great. mind sharing how much it costs to fit?

If you are referring to Volvo's original spoiler, i think its about RM2k
(all in, plus spraying). But could prob get a discount on it.

Another thing. Today, my air-con acted strangely. The driver's side was
blowing cold air while the passenger side was hot! Fiddled with the air-con
temperature before it normalized. Strange strange strange.
